Has there been a recent discussion regarding TRT therapy for middle aged males?
Who's doing it and what are your thoughts and comments? Seems to be fairly common and mainstream now, even accepted readily. I'm 51 and reasonably fit but who wouldn't want to feel better, stronger, faster? not to mention the sexual benefits...

I got levels checked twice, but both times came back normal. Kind of pissed me off.

Testosterone that is administered from any external source can have some really bad side effects. Do a lot of research, and for dang sure talk to your family doctor before you go see some "specialist" that only cares about selling you the "fountain of youth" magic cure.

My levels are normal but personally I think the negative side effects are overblown by social media and stories of people who absolutely abuse them. A carefully guided and monitored TRT therapy seems like it would have minimal to zero side effects. Looking for comments from actual users and experts.

One of the big risks of TRT is blood clots. So get checked for Factor V Leiden before you start.

I'm 59 and my dork is like the spoiler on a late model 911 hovering around 70mph. So no help needed yet. Maybe in the nursing home, for the grey bunnies.

I'm 56, fit, active and have low testosterone. I was on TRT shots for about 6 months and the only things I saw change was that I put on 20 lbs and felt the long-lost feeling of being a young buck again. Not in a good way. The feeling was being amped up and ready for confrontation. Did nothing for my endurance, stamina, energy neither in exercise nor sex. I stopped, lost the weight and feel 'normal' again. Evidently not something for me.

Another poster, just above, reports negative experiences with TRT. Yup. I'm 61 and very happy to finally stop wanting to fight everyone. When your T levels finally throttle back, you finally get peace of mind. My tallywacker actually works pretty good but just in case, there are pills out there for ED. I like Cialis. It makes my 'early 911' drive like a 2019 RSR.

The free testosterone level for a male ages 19-39 is between 264-916 It’s normal for your body to produce lower amounts as you age. A doctor should test your blood every 3 months and make sure your levels are within limits. Obviously to reduce the risk of prostate cancer and blood clots. I don’t think anyone should just randomly take testosterone to feel better. Get tested, if you are low then maybe 25mg-50mg will help with low energy and poor performance down there.

I think I read (here somewhere ?) when you are on TRT your natural production goes down. I haven't heard or read if it goes back up after/if you stop TRT.

Considering the number of sleazy commercials out there for the various products I would definitely tread lightly. Lots of big claims that don’t seem to be backed up by much real science.

After starting this discussion I've asked around at work amongst my similar-aged buddies. One is getting testosterone pellets inserted every 5-6 months. Loves how it makes him feel but I would like to talk to him more about the process and the discussions he's had with his doctor.
Another has low T readings and feels lethargic and has the common low-T symptoms overall but his physician wont refer him to anyone. Thanks for the comments. And yes, I'm wary of the number of clinics and advertisements I'm seeing for TRT. Makes me more skeptical on the other hand with more guys getting this type of treatment there is more data to learn from.

I have a bunch of ex-work buddies who are in their late 30's and they constantly barraged me about my age related low testosterone (I'm 54 now but they were heckling me hard about a year ago via text message because they are in SoCal and I now live in Cincinnati). I started reading everything I could find about it online (mens fitness magazine etc.) and convinced myself that it was now impossible to "get bigger" so I stopped working out and just did 45 min-60 min of treadmill 5 or 6 days per week (up to 15 degrees elevation).
During my annual physical I had them check for T. The doctor said that I have very healthy levels of T. I pressed and he said, "like a teenager"(to make his point). I got the number and went online. I feel like an idiot for listening to my friends. The reason I wasn't seeing "gains" is because I was lazy. I have been back on my bowflex for 6 months and feel great. I hate young people. MAGA DL |

As you can tell by my post above, I am generally not a fan.. Testosterone is arguably the most destructive drug known to man. It turns otherwise happy, healthy humans into angry monsters. I am jokingly exaggerating, obviously.
Your T levels are supposed to fall as you get older. This is a good thing, from multiple perspectives. Defeating this natural process is like bolting a turbo on your engine and turning the boost up until the engine is destroyed. Boost (T) is great and all, but too much of a good thing is a bad idea. That said, I am somewhat talking out my you-know-what. Much of my impressive expertise comes from dating a woman for ten years who worked in a urology clinic. Urologists are generally not big fans of TRT. As I mentioned, too much T promotes prostate cancer. The first thing urologists do when prostate cancer appears and becomes dangerous to the patient, possibly requiring surgery, etc., is to eliminate T from your system. It is sometimes referred to as chemical castration. Our bodies, like our 911s, were well designed. I tend to rely on factory specifications.

Very interesting. Low T also has its own unique set of of health issues outside of the bedroom. Any idea if these "chemically castrated" men are put on some sort of supplements?
