Road Trip?? Need Votes
my usual run from Scottsdale to Carmel is next week. Been very hot here. Normal departure time for me is 4-430AM since it is cooler and will continue to drop a bit until sun up. Route is Scottsdale, Wickenburg, Hope, Parker, Needles, Barstow and end day one in Bakersfield. It it looks like Monsoons then Wickenburg to Kingman to Needles, etc.
Question is this. Drive the RS Clone no a/c and bear it or put it on a trailer and tow to Bakersfield? Thoughts?

To each their own. I would drive the clone. Of course, I put 30k miles on mine the first year it was finished.

With as hot as it's been out in the desert here, I'd vote to tow it.

What tires are on the clone? Gummy autocross and canyon carving tires, or tires with tread that can handle some rain. When I recently drove my 85 911 to Palm Springs area it was 107 outside. That gets really old really fast for a geezer like me without AC. My 85 has great AC so I was very comfortable. No way I could drive a no AC car in that heat.
Tough choice. How heat tolerant are you, and do you have tires than can handle rain?

tires are Pirelli P7's, no front vent windows since it is a '69 tub. Strategy might be to wear my SPF shirt that is very lightweight and keep misting water on it, use the cooling towels I got from the Miami F1 marshal job.
Alternatively drive the dreaded 10 through LA to say Santa Barbara, potentially gets cooler as you drive out of Banning/Beaumont. Hate the 10 though. This route will be hot for say 6 hours. My favored all be hot most of the way. Pic of a stop in the Mojave and driving I 40 west of Needles

When I was young, no worries...I didn’t have a car with a/c until I went to flight school in Pensacola.
I drove across the country 10 times without it: VW’s, 912, 911, BMW 2002, etc. . Now? Nope. I’ve been out with the Pup for the last hour or so and looked up the weather forecast for your route. Ouch. I know, dry heat, but so is my oven. Now, if you can leave Barstow for Carmel early, leave the trailer, get to the coast, perfect. Beautiful car, btw.

There are lots of desolate places out there in Southern, CA AZ and NM. I drove for 30 minutes and only saw a couple of cars. My GPS normally has a list of the next three places to stop for food, fuel or bathroom breaks. At times that part of the display was just blank, there was nothing at for many miles. Good luck!
