People are totally insane

My wife subscribes to one of those next door neighbor email things. She said someone just posted “anyone available to babysit our 2 and 4 year olds tonight? We are a white couple”.

She deleted it before I could see if they gave their address cause I would like to know who these effing morons are that live near me.

What if I was a pedophile or looking to steal one or two kids and who cares if they are white?

What a world

Funny, I don't read it as an 'anyone-will-do' offer. I read it as expecting one of the neighbor she's familiar with to respond. Or perhaps she's fishing someone will refer a teen babysiter. Regardless, I'm sure further vetting will transpire. Anything else read into her post is speculation.

Uh no. This next door neighbor email thing spans miles….an entire section of the town…..Not just my street. Offering up your kids to strangers ? The kids should be removed and placed into foster care :-) I wouldn’t even ask 10,000 strangers if anyone could watch my pet mouse for the night…RIP Henry

Order a babysitter. Order a used car. What's the difference?

Yes. Insane. My neighbor called the cops a week or so ago because I was making dust with earth moving equipment.

I almost lost it. Still might.

One of my sons is on a "next-door" app for his neighborhood. He tells me it is an endless source of entertainment, but has dramatically lowered his already low estimation of humanity. A few very active, very shrill "Karens" (not all of whom are women) keep him thoroughly amused. And, well, being who he is (my son), he has a very good time with them when he gets bored. Way, way too easy to stir the pot and get these over wrought idiots stirred up. Much like PARF, I guess. Clueless idiots feeding on and contributing to one another's fears and anxieties. Easy targets. He would be the first to volunteer to babysit, believe me, and much hilarity would ensue.

I am not on that until my next door neighbor told me I was famous around the neighborhood. During the first few months of lock down, I walked to my car across the street without a mask. My street is very narrow, only one car can pass through while the other must pull out to allow others to pass. No one really walks on the street with the exception of the few that go for their daily walks. Someone had taken a photo of me from maybe 7-8 houses up and caught me without a mask. Oh boy, the madness was like fly on siht. Everyone was on me about being maskless. Yet, there was not anyone around within hundreds of feet. A few threaten to come knocking on my door and give me a bag of mask. Some say, there must a way to call the authorities to fine me or give a citation of some kind. That's place is full of a bunch of keyboard worriers. Much worst then a pimple faced age Honda car form.

I fought back but decided it was fruitless after a few hours. It was like rolling in the mud with a pig except the pig actually likes rolling in it.

You want a good laugh - watch the chatter on the Ring Video security chats.

"This car drove through my neighborhood twice in a day, should I call the police?"

get a grip Karen.

My wife started using the Nextdoor app. I refused it.

She tells me about some of the silly posts. I honestly don't understand the appeal.

Yet another potentially useful information tool that has been hijacked by people who worry too much about what others are doing or not doing. Reminded me of Gladys Kravits on Bewitched if you are old enough to remember the show.

I have looked at our version a couple of times. Got scared that some of the members are awfully close to me....

I use NextDoor, but its pretty much a joke. "There's a strange dog walking through my yard. Should I be concerned?". "A man Ive never seen before walked by my house and looked at it. He was wearing a hoodie. I called the cops but they never showed up".

But it is good as a free buy/sell marketplace, and to get some quick local info. Definitely turn notifications off.

Yeah, more stupid people than I ever feared there could be.

I used to subscribe, but got tired of too many notifications of events far from my neighborhood. I do kind of like being able to look up what nearby police activity is going on and especially for looking for referrals for handymen, plumbers, etc.

And lets not forget the 50 people who write back offering support and condolences to this person for having their routine disrupted so horribly.

I was on it. After some months I demanded the national admins delete every digital byte of my account. I will visit under my wife's account to look at the For Sale section. I have done very well there.

It is worthy to note that my neighborhood, once very active, and an every day growing membership, is down to a couple posts a day. Everyone is fed up with the drivel. ND showcases how friggin ignorant people are.

In the end it has become a lost and found for pets and keys with a smattering of out and out stupidity.

My feelings on this app is similar to what has been posted. I have had it for 6 months and it is too much for me.

What it reflects is the state of life. I'm live in Chicago and what I read is no different from any of you, it appears, no matter where you live. It is just a matter of degree.
