Do you like getting your teeth cleaned?

I go to the hygienist every 4 months. I’ve been doing this since I started my career in sales over 20 years ago. I’ve never looked forward to it though. My wife goes every 6 months and she says it’s always an enjoyable experience. What I can’t stand is the high pressure washer used to chip away at plaque. I much prefer the manual way with a metal scraper. I’m thinking one slip with the pressure washer and I’d have hole in my tongue or cheek. My hygienist is getting up there in age but luckily, no tremors yet.

Same here. One time last year, my reg hygienist was gone and a younger new gal was doing the cleaning. As soon as she started...it felt way worse and I could hardly sit still.

She said there is a pressure setting on it and would turn it down a little.
It was fine after that.

I go twice a year...they had me on three times for quite a few years until I asked to change it.

Decades ago my dentist used to do the semi-annual cleaning. Not fun. Now I have an annual cleaning done by a cute, personable dental hygienist. I think that is an improvement.

I have my teeth cleaned twice a year and really like the feeling of really clean teeth. A few years ago my hygienist offered soda blast cleaning so I tried that. I can’t say it was better or worse than the polishing paste and rubber tipped rotary polisher. Now I alternate between the two methods every other visit.

I have a follow-up cleaning next week at a dentist I genuinely like. I say that because prior to the initial cleaning a couple months ago, I had not been to a dentist in roughly 15 years. I told my wife to make an appointment for me at her dentist which she did. That cleaning visit went well as have follow ups for cavity and crown work.

I have no issues now going to this dentist. I don’t think my hygienist is as cute as Les’, unfortunately.

It wasnt bad. I havnt gone in about 10 years since our dentist changed hands raided prices and then went out of buisness. But now brush and mouthwash twice a day and havnt had any cavitys that I can see. Also rinse out after drinking coffee I think that helps alot.

No, nothing pleasant about it. I get it done ever 6 months, and it is about as much fun as going to my dermatologist every 6 months to get pre-cancerous growths burned off due to living in Hawaii and going to school in my shorts, and no shirt or shoes and going weeks at a time and not wearing a shirt or any sun screen ever.

I wonder if you are referring to an ultra sonic scaler. The water pressure is fairly low but it sounds like the water is doing the work but it's not.

Yes, I like it. Been seeing the same hygienist for a long time. First time she looked at my records and noted that I'd seen every hygienist in the office at least once and never the same one twice. She told me that stops now. Been seeing her ever since. She does it the old fashioned manual way, which is fine with me.
After what I went thru going to the orthodontist as a kid for so many years, getting my teeth cleaned is a piece of cake.

I hate it.

But i also go 4 times a year, every 3 months religiously.

The more often you go the less time it takes so if you hate it go more often.

The ultrasonic is the worst part for me.

The frequency is like nails on a chalkboard on steroids for me.

I have a couple of lower front teeth that are sensitive to the frequency and feel like they are burning up from the inside.

The less time i spend with it the better.

I stopped using toothpaste 20 years ago. I use baking soda some of the time and actual soap other times. I'm not swallowing so it doesn't matter as long as it's gum friendly. Weak hydrogen peroxide is good every few days. Pretty much necessary for smokers which I have never been.

I go twice a year, can't say I enjoy it, but it's not bad if I floss once a day and use some mouthwash in the morning. I was just there about a week ago and was making conversation with the hygenist. The doctor there cleans his own teeth, and she does too. Okay.

One of my all time favorite funny movie scenes:

Every 6 months per my dental plan. Last time I went they recommended deep cleaning. That I don't enjoy (not that I enjoy the regular cleaning either).

Ok for me, like clean teeth but dislike the gritty polish they use. It get all over and sometimes I think I have to accidentally ingest some

It's like you ate some sand for a few hours.

My hygenist bumps into my gums a little bit each time. I wonder if she knows it friggen hurts.

A quick tip from someone who learned the hard way....
Keep your eyes closed when she is polishing your teeth after the cleaning!

I wear eyeglasses and she had just asked which flavor I wanted for the polishing. I think I chose cherry (it was about 10 years ago)
The instant that the polisher contacted my front tooth, it threw a gob of polish under my glasses directly into my eye. I had no time to blink.

She had some eye drops handy and it took about 10 minutes to wash the stuff out.
It didn't hurt bad, but I was worried about the grit.
Now I close my eyes.

I just get my eyes polished while I'm there.
