I guess they’re trying to fool them, because it doesn’t look like a super car to me.

We're going to have a Pagani at our Cars and Cappuccino gathering in Charlotte this Sunday. THAT is a super car.

If a GT3 RS falls into the supercar category (and I'm not saying it does or it doesn't) then this car casts the same shadow. C/F bodywork, 800 hp, racecar pedigree (yet to be tested but designed to take on LeMans)

People will ultimately look back on this era of the automobile with fond nostalgia; it seems like the boardrooms are giving the OK to anything that the engineers can dream up.

You'd have to catch it first.

“The hardware has been carefully selected and developed to enable blistering lap time performance. The target for this project was clear – go much, much faster than we’ve ever gone before with a targeted sub-7-minute Nürburgring time. This makes it the fastest roadgoing Mustang ever from Ford,” says Greg Goodall, Ford chief program engineer."

" as well as some technology that would be illegal in racing, such as hydraulically controlled front flaps to manage airflow for aerodynamic balance in coordination with the hydraulic active rear wing."

So active wing surfaces are usually not acceptable in official racing.
Got it.

Anything over 300-500hp needs 4WD IMO. Or face the wrath of fatasstiregigantasaurus fully enclosing the differential.

When raced at LeMans (or any other WEC / IMSA venue) it will be restricted to way less than 800HP as well.

It'll need some kind of engineering to compete with this:

That is, to me, the F4 Phantom of hypercars.
With enough horsepower and technical know how, you can make a barn perform.

There are lots of very very fast cars for sale right now. It is an amazing era if you have lots of money.

To me it is interesting that when you look at the Nurburgring records for true street legal as delivered from the car dealership track times that are lots of Porsche 911s on the top 10 list, and often at the top of the list. Mercedes keeps making cars just to beat the Porsches.

Then look for the Ferraris. Very few of them in the top 50. A handful of Labos and other high end super cars.

My biggest surprise is cars like the 918 are embarrassed by a new 991 GT3RS. WEe have several GT3RS in our local PCA region. There were three of them at a recent "Motors in the morning" at the local dealership car gathering, and one GT4 was in that group.

"When you look at the engineering, the aerodynamics, how the powertrain works, the Mustang GTD is a rocket ship for the road,” says Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports.

Perhaps not the best choice of word, IMHO.

Just imagine the show this thing could put on while exiting a C&C.

The target is a sub-7-minute Nürburgring lap time. Awaiting lap time results and video, then we can discuss.

Right now there are no Mustangs on the list. I did not study it to carefully, but I did not even see the Ford GT on the list.

It will be interesting to see the times. Can they beat the fastest Corvettes?

“Mustang GTD shatters every preconceived notion of a supercar. "

So a "supercar" is now defined as Mustang? I always thought of a
Supercar as something exotic - or a car Mike Mercury drove.

"This is a new approach for us. We didn’t engineer a road car for the track, we created a race car for the road. Mustang GTD takes racing technology from our Mustang GT3 race car, wraps it in a carbon fiber Mustang body and unleashes it for the street.”

A "a race car for the road" is utterly irresponsible. They are producing a suicide/homicide machine for people with more money than driving ability and turning them loose on public streets.
