QR codes .... I'm a grocer ;)
Gotta love the QR....no more item pricing, no more shelf pricing.
Can lay-off half my workforce...just need a couple teens to stock shelves at night. With the self-serve checkouts....there might not be any employees needed. ![]() Win-Win!

BTW, I understand that per the current Michigan law "...retailers are required to display the price of items offered for sale in the store at the place where the item is located, but they are no longer required to individually mark the price on the item itself. " Also, lots of people don't carry around devices that can read QR codes, or don't want to fumble around pulling them out in stores. But if you are thinking this is a win-win, don't forget to take into account the cost of security guards and significantly increased inventory loss. Oh, an it also requires that you have a reliable wi-fi or cell data connection available. Talk to any of the retail outlets that have self-serve checkouts (e.g. Home Depot) and find out how much their inventory losses went up when they went to self-checkout, and how they had to reintroduce manned checkouts and checkout monitoring. Lots of people scanned only some of their items. |

^^^ The QR codes lead to a lot more than the individual pricing.
As far as devices go...good for the seller. No device...just pay if you need it. I really don't care if it goes to this for all items. I usually don't pay much attention to prices. If I want it, I get it. (I figure that it can't be that far off from the normal price) I'm not a grocer...only name that I could come up with to KC's geezer thread. ![]()

When Costco abandons price labels hell freezes. POP is king there. How's a QR code gonna let you know good cheese is a dollar off? If I have to scan fresh bakery cookies I'm not gonna eat cookies.

I do the shopping in my household. I have no problem with scanning the price at the register but, on a regular basis (like once a month) the price at the register is not the price on the shelf or the sale price in the circular.
That adds up you are buying 3 packages of ribeye steaks and the price error was about 5 bucks per package (happened last month). Just yesterday I bought two bottles of laundry (different store)- 10.99 on the shelf and 12.99 at the register. The stores apologized for the "innocent error" but in my mind this is fraud. It happens too many times and it is always the price being higher at the register. What a coincidence! The stores never "accidentally" charge too little. ![]() I don't have time to check every price with my phone so if there is no price on the shelf it stays on the shelf.

I often see shelves with products that don't have prices that match. It seems like no effort is given to make it easy for the buyer to see it.
Our Meijer had a 'buy one and get the second for 40% off' for a couple weeks. Twice, I tried to do that...and both times the check-out didn't register it right. It pays to watch the receipt.

In HS I worked in a grocery store, store policy was that if it didn’t ring up correctly, you got the item for free. That store chain is no longer around.

Years ago, Food Lion used to do that - they stopped. Edit: when I was in HS, there were no bar codes and every item had a price label on it except fresh produce.

Almost Banned Once

I went to the *movies with my GF yesterday and I used a stand up robot looking thing to buy and then select our seats. All in all a pleasant experience but for some unknown reason the thing wasn't able to print out our tickets... I had to take a photo of the screen/displayed number and then show that to the lady who was manning the candy bar. She printed out or tickets and handed them to me.

The new and improved, bio-smart, safe for human consumption, FDA approved, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartdust Now available with extra vitamins! It's completely edible and you wouldn't even know it's there. Unlike those pulling off labels, opening packages in the store, or covering up RFID tags, it's completely tamper resistant because it's coated or even baked into the product itself. Protected classes use the separate exits without scanners anyways because paying for something or being detained creates like bad vibes and stuff and extra amenities need to be provided to keep them happy. We know our loyal customers are always there and will to take up the slack and pitch in a little extra to keep the stores open. For example owners of luxury sports cars and turtles might notice a small surcharge on each item of their total bill, because individual pricing means bespoke prices, but we know you can afford it and are good citizens. (Prices and participation are based consumer data provided by 3rd party data collection) Do your part and help keep our prices lower. Buy SmartDust™ certified products today.

^^^ Somewhat similar...I had a coupon for $3 off on any $10 purchase at any Lotto retailer.
I figured it was an omen to further winnings and was at Meijer with my coupon. ![]() After a few seconds it didn't allow it. She said Lotto tickets have to be paid with a debit card or cash. I had neither...and said I have never seen that before. I could tell she was getting irritated and she reached into her cash drawer and handed me $3 and said "Have a good day" She kept the coupon.
