Floor jack recommendations

The casters on my Harbor Freight aluminum low profile floor jack have given up their balls. I've checked McMaster Carr for threaded stem casters and nothing is close to strong enough. Some guy on Amazon is selling bespoke floor jack casters for $50 a pair. I'm leery of putting $50 in this POS jack, afraid something else will go wrong soon. Thinking of starting over.

I have a big heavy steel floor jack, but this little lightweight jack is really handy at times.

Anyone have an aluminum low profile jack that they like and trust? Light weight is important to me.

I have 2 of the small cheap light HF aluminum jacks. One I can't kill, it's been outside 10+ years and still works. The other spent a few years in florida, 200' from the ocean. While my tools all rusted, that jack still works also.

If yours is the one I'm thinking of, realize almost all of the weight is on the front rollers. The rear castors don't get 1/2 the force, probably 1/10 or less.

Edit: Needless to say my body parts are never under a car supported by any jack.

Edit again, Looks like HF sells replacement parts, info on product page on website. $18 for caster for 2T jack

Still have the pvc wrap on my wheels. Thought this would be temporary and still think so. Would like a better solution even though, it's been working for three years.

It's a shame that they make every one rapid pump. Maybe using a 3 ton to lift something light isn't too bad. I had an old HF Al low profile jack that worked well except that it took a ton of force to raise a car and at the time I weighed 200-210#.

I really love those AC Hydraulic jacks, but they are heavy and pricey.

That’s the jack I have, now that my 40 year old sears jack has given up the ghost.

I also have a small HF jack I take to the track, but I need to add oil or bleed it, as it only seems to pump halfway.

I assume you are talking about the rapid pump comment. The rapid pump thing provides more lift per pump with a corresponding increase in effort. A slow pump makes for more pumps with less effort.

I assumed on Jack rated for heavier lifting have more mechanical advantage.

OK, I don't think I've ever noticed a difference. I used to have a 50 year old Snap On that had the best release and slooooooow control down I could imagine in a jack but after the piston started leaking and I couldn't find anyone to reapir it and Snap On could not care less, I threw it in the dumpster (a hard day) and got the Daytona.

the Daytona lifts my 5000 lb Cayenne easily.

If lifting is difficult just get some electrical conduit pipe at Home Depot and add a few feet to the handle length

That's a shame because they are so easy to rebuild. I'm doing mine right now with a kit I bought online for $28 and after watching a short YT video. The HF jack that you linked is good, though...the tire shop I use just buys HF jacks now and gets the warranty on them. Been working out great for a busy shop that used to use only top-of-the-line name brand jacks.

I have 2 jacks.

One is a Craftsman aluminum 2 ton. Works great for lighter stuff. This is my second one of these. The first one used to live in my unheated garage in Northern NY. I was using it once during the winter; I'm guessing it was so cold that it broke in a couple of places, the metal developed a fracture and two pieces fell off. It was still operational but luckily I was able to get Sears to replace it, even though the Craftsman guarantee didn't apply to items other than hand tools.

My other is a HF 3 ton. Heavy and much better for my Land Rovers.

I have one big floor jack that's rated for SUV's (Chinese made). Make sure you buy something robust. Aesthetics or weight means very little because it will be tucked away in a corner of your workshop most of the time. If you need something more portable then look for an alloy jack but they're always more expensive than a steel.

The best for Jack that I've ever seen/used. It's neither lightweight or inexpensive, but it is an exceptional jack. I don't have one.
