I can say as a guy who's over 60 by a life time for some young people, I'd not be interested in "dating" if I didn't have my wife for some reason. Most of the years before I got married for the second time at 55, I wasn't planning on marrying after my former wife & I went our separate ways. I was looking forward to living a freewheeling life from that time on, especially since my first marriage didn't result in children because of an unfortunate health condition of my former wife. I would pull up my roots and live out my final days on the road or living in Portugal. At this point in life, I'd be interested in people I could do enjoyable activities with and no emotional obligations.

I did a double take of this picture when I first saw it. I thought the cat had just mauled Byron but then realized it was just the tie dye pattern!

If I had "no emotional obligations" here in Australia I'd probably be living with my ex-GF in Texas (I'm serious).

If that wasn't possible maybe a lesser known Greek Island. I'd also consider Northern India.

In the vein of "when you least expect it" I crossed paths after my divorce with a woman I have worked with for years but never really knew. The crossing of our paths was a collision. We are now 'together'. She could care less about cars but has a PhD in particle physics and absolutely kicks my ass intellectually. I love it. I have no ego anymore - I know who I am. She is the most amazing person I have ever met.

Life is too short to not be happy. I think when you get to my age (like most of us) this isn't our first rodeo and at this point in life it is all about being honest, not playing games, and just being happy. "Create a world that you love" every day and be happy as long as it is not at anyone else's expense.
Solid post, Mike.

BTW....good luck this Saturday!

Very true but let's add, e) be honest. Don't tell me you're a real estate developer of you hang drywall. I'd probably date a drywall guy, but not a liar. f) Never ask if we're going to have sex. That's so not hot. Plus, I'll know long before you do if you'll get laid. Just relax.

First of all sex can be YAY!!! But a lively dialogue over a leisurely dinner followed by more conversation in a quiet place over cocktails with a charming and witty woman is my idea of a very good time. Cap it off with a soft kiss goodnight and I'm a happy man. IMHO

Guys know that.

They’re looking for the answer, and asking the one who knows!

Hmmm, I'm 58, have all that and it doesn't work.

Didn't Byron post tons of pics from meets in each post? Like 20 pics each time?

At 55, here are some random thoughts in no particular order.

First date horror stories on your first date are fun and interesting and I honestly can't believe so many men are incredible *******s. I should have written down some of the things I've heard.

Do something active and exciting on a first date. My best, for summer time mostly, is to get two canvases and bring some brushes and acrylics. Packing a picnic lunch and painting along the Charles River pays, umm, dividends later that day. Every time.

Women in their 40s love sex and are pretty aggressive about it.

Women lie about their age by posting their real age with 10 year old pics in their profile.

Men lie about their height and their age by posting bigger and smaller numbers in their profile.

Don't text endlessly.

Look for red flags that they are married or not really into you but along for the ride because they are bored.

At this age it's hard to believe you have to say this but confidence is everything.

It is the rare woman who likes cars. All of them like to go on drives/rides.

Only date people with friends.

Only date people with a real life who does things and likes conversation. Though if you don't, I guess that's ok. I've been trapped by attractive women who like intimacy but are boring as hell. No, I don't want to hear what Tim did to Sherri in accounting, again, and again, and again. I think one my biggest turn-offs is women whose lives revolve around office intrigue and what they watch on TV.

Have a date with a 53 year old tomorrow night, she invited me to dinner at a restaurant she likes. First 50+ so this should be interesting.

Also texting with a 43 year old who 3 inches taller (I'm pretty short at 5'10") but she's fine with it. I'm looking forward to meeting her though she's a little too far on the introvert side I fear. We'll see.

For dates, do something you want to do, something you would want to do by yourself, and she will want to do too. That you are having a good time, because it's not a date, it's a fun activity you are into, makes you shine a little brighter.

I never go on let's have coffee dates.

One more:

People who 'drink' can be fun at first. It gets old fast. Alcoholism is pretty common among divorced people. Cut your losses and move on.

And, right there, is the answer to "how does our universe work?"

(I like this new 'Capt. Carerra'!)

None, whatsoever. Which is why you should date two 30-year-olds.
