Cars you like, but don't dare buy.

Do you have a car you'd love to own, but know buying it would be a really stupid decision?

This is mine. I love this car. It makes me feel glamorous, young, and sexy. Plus, it's in amazing shape and I can afford it. But I won't buy it. I don't want to work on it, I have no place to keep it, and in all honesty, it does nothing really well.

Every time I look at it, I hear Waylon, "I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane."

I had a 71 Thunderbird. It was the same body style. I was like driving a leather upholstered living room. Yeah, it was great !

The toughest part is finding a mechanic that will even touch it. With no OBD2 port to plug the computer into they have to think how to fix it.

And if it is is true original working order it will have great air conditioning, and easy steering input and a very soft ride.

My 1986 El Camino I bought in 1991 is my daily driver. The AC is just amazing, and parts are super cheap. Replacement starters, alternators, water pumps and power steering pumps are free! After 381,000 miles those parts have all been replaced with guaranteed for life parts, so replacements are free. I bought a set of front brake pads, GM Goodwrench pads, for $12 delivered. Yea, twelve bucks.

I bought an entire new engine, GM new, now remanufactured or rebuilt, but brand new 350 for $1,700 delivered to my door with a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty. The original engine was worn out after 300,000 miles and just the head work needed for a rebuild was more than the $1,700.

928. I don’t know if the electrical scare is warranted but it’s been pounded in my head since I’ve ever known them.
944 turbo for maimtenace reasons again I’ve heard, whether true or not, I don’t know.

I feel the Bore Score/imsb thing created opportunity as far as having a great car on the cheap. I’m on my 3rd m96 (sold others, didn’t blow up) and they have been super reliable. Big 986 fan.

I like a lot of cars, but won't consider them due to a considerable risk of mechanical or rust problems, or lack of support. One car I like is the original Tesla Roadster, but my understanding is they have lost support from Tesla, which speaks very poorly of Tesla IMO. A lot of old Volvos no longer have support from the factory, along with a lot of other makes.

Looks like I'll have to settle for a '66 Chevelle SS or a '71-72 El Camino SS.

I just read last night that the 355 could be had with a F1 sequential shifter. I know an owner of one. He got stranded in a parking lot due to the clutch. At the time, years ago, it cost him $12K.
