Tesla cybertruck- banned to resell for 1 year

Just read this nonsense . So the truck is over priced , ugly and they are banning you from reselling in the first year of ownership ????? And are saying they will potentially fine you if you do ? Elon is crazier than I thought .

I would hope pushback on this stupidity would be swift and fierce . What do you guys think about this ?

I only pay cash for cars.
Once I do, it is mine to do with it whatever I please.

If I was interested in buying a Cybertruck, and the sales dude presented this restriction, I would thank him for his time, and walk out.

Was it in the sales contract?
If not he can take a flying leap.
And if remote sabotage via 'updates' occur, then deal with another dept cost.

Tesla did win a round of 'self-driving' accident class action claims. Who knows what was in that.
Tesla got rid of LIDAR I think and the camera software did not recognize stopped vehicles such as police and fire.
(IMO it should never have been allowed on the road.)

Not only is this bad PR, hurting the brand name, it's probably not legal.
But hey like that brooklyn sunglasses con artist who gives himself negative reviews...any PR is good PR.

Shareholders and the BOD must be yanking hair at all the antics.
Americans don't like to be micro-managed and bossed around but that seems to be changing.
Sure, personally he's got an unlimited slush fund and can absorb it.

The first round would be flipped for millions and then peter out as people bought new.
I'm guessing there must be zero potential customer base to rush in.

Tesla is not the first to do this:

Ford did this same thing with the GT back in 2016.
John Cena was sued by Ford for this and settled.

Tesla has not released pricing yet so not sure why it's considered overpriced. Have you seen what trucks cost in general? I think the whole market is overpriced.

No one has gotten their hands on one yet but I assume the contract will state Tesla gets first right of refusal to purchase back, so it will be binding.

Personally, I have registered for a cybertruck lottery and would be fine driving for a year if I won it. I'm curious about the drive. And I like cars that are different.

Isn’t Porsche doing something similar with the new 911 S/T? The first year is a mandatory lease.

Tesla is attempting to minimize the frenzy flipping or is there more to it than this?

Am I incorrect or are we beating the shizzle out of Tesla for "controlling" things so a middle man does not get rich while Chevy dealers are a*s raping C7 equipped Corvette buyers.

whatever.

this doenst apply to me. if I buy it, I am using it for way more than a year.

if I am not buying it, this doesn't apply to me, and I subscribe to a new attitude of not worry about what others are doing.

That's what I have heard on certain models. And you can't even buy one if you're not approved as a buyer. Again, IDT that's all models. I'm sure the dealer has something for everyone.

What do I know, never even sat in one.

Ferrari is know to not even sell you a car is they "don't know you as a customer".

So you can have the cash in hand, and go try to buy a high end Ferrari and they will tell you, no you can't have the new Daytona SP3 at any price, but we will sell you the used Mondial.

From what I understand, if you buy a new Ferrari and flip it within a year, you'll be blacklisted and won't be able to buy another. This might only apply to their more desirable models. What some rich guys do is get in good with Ferrari after buying a few cars as they qualify to buy the nicer ones. They sell them back to the dealer for a profit and get another one. Ferrari dealers can't sell them for over MSRP.

No resale in the first year is in the sales condition. They don't fine you, they sue you. If you can get more than $50k over retail you're still ahead.

Maybe they have enough back-orders that they don't care if some people balk and walk away.
