Moab in November?

Since Yellowstone is basically closed from November 1 - December 15, we are looking for a different adventure.

Ever been to Moab in November?

We plan to drive there (all the way from Canada, eh).

I know there are lots of hikes and things to do in Arches Park. What else is a must see?

I do want to do some light off roading in my wife’s Cayenne (while in Rome).

What other amazing things can’t we miss?

Stargazing is great in summer, but probably cold as hell in November, but maybe not so bad for a Canadian.

We drove through Arches on our way to Calgary last time I called you for help with the Duramax while you were out in BC with your kids. Again, thanks for the help and offer the usage of your shop. That was awfully nice of you.

Snow is patchy, not too cold even in December. It the typical high desert so dress warm. The hikes are not too bad and most are short if you want to see the arches up close. Most can be access on paved roads. If you decided to get off the trail, its not rougn but well graded dirt roads. Not sure about the condition of those road after a big rain storm but I think they take care of the parks pretty well. I thinbk two to three days are enough unless you are interested in drawn out day hikes. Put some miles on the Pepper mobile and come out west and south a bit, visit Bryce and Zion NP. Keep in mind that most eateries will be closed due to being off season but I think park should be open.

You can rent UTVs and go drive in MOAB.. Rent MTBs... Also, do NOT miss going to Canyonlands National Park.. It's a short drive and basically just like the Grand Canyon.. Arches is really cool. Moab thins out tremendously after labor Day and it will be cold.

I rode my motorcycle all around there in mid-November about 11 yrs. ago. I didn't have any inclement weather. Cold at night and early in the morning, but not too bad, even with a 100 mph windchill factor on my bike.

Cool mornings and beautiful sunny days. It feels much warmer due to low humidity.
Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point, Fisher Towers, Needles (SE entry to Canyonlands - still haven’t been), etc.
Still 700+ miles of off-road open.
Downtown has visitor Center with hundreds of detailed maps
Mountain biking galore, which is what I usually come for
Plenty of hotels and rentals that time of year. Campsites range from full hookups to dispersed (primitive).
Most land either National park, national forest, state park, BLM (Bureau of Land Management), etc

November in Moab is a crap shoot. 80% chance of clear, 20% a bunch of snow. There have been some years where it all gets boxed in and trails closed by snow. Usually though it's dry and sunny. Or, it may appear gray in town due to the Colorado River inversion but will be sunny up on Island in the sky (2,000 feet higher).

I'm not really a tour guide, but Moab is a place where you make your own fun. And Moab is considered a base camp, with a radius of a couple hundred miles. General exploring of Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point, side trip to Goblin Valley, just general driving around, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, Jeeping, ATV's, river rafting, etc. But all things you do on your own, or pay people to show you. lots of tour guides in town. Locals seem to be broken down into these various activities too, each with their own factions.

I doubt any trail closures will affect anywhere you go, since there's plenty to see on the main trails, especially if you haven't been here before.

Best hotels: You have the Hoodoo downtown, Best Western downtown. There's so many now that I don't pay attention. Just do an internet search on Moab Hotels. I'd be curious what winter rates are like these days. Off season used to be October through early March but that's no longer true. I would also prefer to stay in town where you can walk everywhere at night though.

I have no idea which restaurants will be open then. Something will be though.

Actually if you're just doing a road trip, you might stop through Yellowstone anyway on the way down.

Concur with Craig. Stay near downtown if you can to be within walking distance of things. Hoodoo is very nice and new. Friends just stayed at Fairfield Inn, which is nice, but outside of town.

That is a shame on those closures there. I was just on a number of those trails back in April and they were great. We were planning another trip there this April, but that may change now.

Gemini Bridges and the area below it was super cool, can't get there anymore based on that article.

If you want similar terrain and warmer weather go a little further south to Hurricane/St George UT. I just got back and am planning my return.

Hotel is booked, electric mountain bike rentals are booked, we plan to spend a day hiking, a day mountain biking on the slick rock trail, and a day touring in the cayenne.

Well, that didn’t go as planned… after I posted the above pic, the cayenne started making a racket… I changed the front did fluid in Dillon in a parking lot to no avail… passenger front wheel bearing.

We turned around and just made it home. I guess we are heading to Banff tomorrow to go skiing instead.
