This ignores the value of a cash tip. Also ignores what a tip is in general, as already mentioned.

In a way it's Sort of a benign but still pretty dark preview of what a cashless CBDC society is going to be like.


I've never used doordash and hope not to.

I'd never do it .... 'cause I'm not a thief ... but what's to prevent someone from walking in pretending to be DD and just picking up a bag of Chick-Fil-A sammiches ... free food! ...or the couple of other places I frequent .... nothing that I have observed.

I never use Doordash or any of those people but once jsut to try it. Iam too cheap plus, it gets me out of the house. If it weren't for me, my wife and kids will support the rent or mortgage of some of these drivers but then again, my wife don't like to spend extra money like that. I shove them out the door so we can eat there plus the food is better hot and fresh instead of harden cheese on pizza.

I don't uber but the few times when were were in SF. All the cars were clean and drivers were regular folks trying to make a few extra bucks and all were friendly. The Yellowcab drivers look pretty sleezy and dirty. The taxi were looking pretty dirty and old as well.

I don't understand this tipping before service? Demanding a tip just don't sit well with me, maybe l am just like my dad, tipping is for excellence service. No fooking tip before service and I surely hope the market speak and they lose business by making such threat. In this town, there are too many bleeding hearts for the struggling and like to feel they are making a difference so they should still thrive. Ain't gettin' it from me if they make such statement.

You can bet that door dash takes 75% of it.

SO that driver is getting $2.50 to deliver your burger while doordash takes 7.50. Thats why I tip. Its also why I don't use them very much.

It may be a higher percentage than 75% but none of the tip. I'm still reading.

Just got a text from another DD driver. Said out of a $6 dollar delivery fee and a $3 tip he will at least get $5. Yikes.

I have seen some cross verifying between the food place and the driver but nothing serious. Mainly because there can be more than one DD waiting for pickup.

That's a polite way of saying pay more or bad things may happen.
I don't get food delivered but I would want to hand the driver money when the food arrives.

All of this begging means the employer isn't paying the wages of it's employees.
Not my problem.

Sooo ... for someone who will never use DD (or any delivery again) ... what does it run ya? Say ya order a $20 pizza ... and want the driver to get a $5 tip ... approx.

I remember when Dominos appeared back in college (dorm life) ... a large 1 topping was 6 bucks ... NO tip, and ya hoped it took 30 minutes and 30 seconds .....then it wuz totally FREE :D

Tipping was unheard of back then (here) ... except 10% at a sit-down, waitress service joint.

I still think Barney should have gone back to the diner and retrieved that extra quarter they left on the table ;).
