This ignores the value of a cash tip. Also ignores what a tip is in general, as already mentioned.
In a way it's Sort of a benign but still pretty dark preview of what a cashless CBDC society is going to be like. I've never used doordash and hope not to. |
I'd never do it .... 'cause I'm not a thief ... but what's to prevent someone from walking in pretending to be DD and just picking up a bag of Chick-Fil-A sammiches ... free food! ...or the couple of other places I frequent .... nothing that I have observed.

Other than that probably nothing. My local liquor store has a wall of shame… |

I never use Doordash or any of those people but once jsut to try it. Iam too cheap plus, it gets me out of the house. If it weren't for me, my wife and kids will support the rent or mortgage of some of these drivers but then again, my wife don't like to spend extra money like that. I shove them out the door so we can eat there plus the food is better hot and fresh instead of harden cheese on pizza. I don't uber but the few times when were were in SF. All the cars were clean and drivers were regular folks trying to make a few extra bucks and all were friendly. The Yellowcab drivers look pretty sleezy and dirty. The taxi were looking pretty dirty and old as well. I don't understand this tipping before service? Demanding a tip just don't sit well with me, maybe l am just like my dad, tipping is for excellence service. No fooking tip before service and I surely hope the market speak and they lose business by making such threat. In this town, there are too many bleeding hearts for the struggling and like to feel they are making a difference so they should still thrive. Ain't gettin' it from me if they make such statement. |
Check out how much the service fee is...
You can bet that door dash takes 75% of it. SO that driver is getting $2.50 to deliver your burger while doordash takes 7.50. Thats why I tip. Its also why I don't use them very much. |

Just got a text from another DD driver. Said out of a $6 dollar delivery fee and a $3 tip he will at least get $5. Yikes. Edit: Dasher gets a portion of the delivery fee, surely, but no idea how much. What fees do I pay? (https://help.doordash.com/consumers/s/article/What-fees-do-I-pay?language=en_US) Service Fee: This fee helps us operate the DoorDash platform. Service fees start at $0.60 and may increase based on the order subtotal. Delivery Fee: This fee is charged on delivery orders and helps DoorDash cover costs associated with getting your order directly to you, and can vary depending on the merchant, location, and other factors, such as demand. Delivery fees currently can vary, starting at $0; DashPass members enjoy $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders (read more on DashPass below). Small Order Fee: In some cases, this fee is charged to enable us to make small transactions worthwhile to fulfill. A $2.50 fee may be charged if your order subtotal is below a certain amount. Expanded Range Fee: This fee helps DoorDash preserve your access to the available merchants farthest from you. To help ensure the quality of such deliveries, we offer consumers the option to access those merchants for an additional fee. Express Fee: This optional fee applies when you select Express Delivery at checkout. When you select Express Delivery, DoorDash matches your order with a Dasher more quickly than standard orders. Regulatory Response Fee: DoorDash may charge this fee when a local or state regulation leads to increased operating costs for DoorDash. (For example, a local regulatory authority may temporarily cap the fees we may charge restaurants for operating on the DoorDash platform.) This additional fee enables us to continue offering you convenient services and ensure Dashers make meaningful earnings. Regulatory response fees are flat fees that vary based on region and currently may range from $0.10 to $3.40. Other Mandatory Fees: In some cases, government authorities require DoorDash to charge certain fees. These fees are applied based on local regulations. Note: This list of fees is not exhaustive and may be subject to change. What other charges might I pay when I place an order? Estimated Tax: Estimated taxes are calculated based on local regulations as well as the order subtotal. Finalized tax will be shown on your order receipt. Optional Dasher Tip: Every dollar you tip is an extra dollar in your Dasher’s pocket. You are able to tip either at checkout or immediately after the delivery. Dashers always receive 100% of customer tips, and tipping is completely optional. |

That's a polite way of saying pay more or bad things may happen. I don't get food delivered but I would want to hand the driver money when the food arrives. |
All of this begging means the employer isn't paying the wages of it's employees.
Not my problem. |
Sooo ... for someone who will never use DD (or any delivery again) ... what does it run ya? Say ya order a $20 pizza ... and want the driver to get a $5 tip ... approx.
I remember when Dominos appeared back in college (dorm life) ... a large 1 topping was 6 bucks ... NO tip, and ya hoped it took 30 minutes and 30 seconds .....then it wuz totally FREE :D Tipping was unheard of back then (here) ... except 10% at a sit-down, waitress service joint. I still think Barney should have gone back to the diner and retrieved that extra quarter they left on the table ;). Times change.... |
