Chinese Submarine Accident

Have y'all seen this news story? I find it fascinating. What are y'all's thoughts?
(I'm admittedly not a big news follower. Fretting over things beyond my control only stresses me out.)

That is the first I heard of it.

Submarines are difficult and dangerous to operate.

Probably why I've never been allowed on one, haha.

That's the official story. Certainly not the first. Sad situation for those on board.

They say the crew died as they could not surface and ran out of oxygen....later:

“Six hours is not enough to result in hypoxia without something else consuming the oxygen first, like a fire or explosion,” Shugart told Radio Free Asia.

Yeah, I'm thinking something else went wrong, not just getting hung up in a net.

But then, what do I know? The Navy trained me to track and kill enemy submarines. :-)

A Chinese sub caught in a Chinese sub trap. It just sounds odd.

Torpedo failure mentioned later into the article. Seems more plausible, but I'm surprised the CCP would admit that.

One thing for sure, whatever the CCP says happened, that is not what happened

+1

It’s similar to Tom Hanks’ character in Greyhound, upon sinking their first U-boat.

What a terrible way to go. Those guys likely knew what trouble they were in.

Put a "r" sound at the end of the word to inflect the Beijing accent, and make it sound more official.

I have a very good friend who was a submarine officer and a neighbor who was one as well. They tell me the other team’s gear is far poorer than ours. Bad things happen and the margins are thin. What a sad way to go.
