When you use an electric blanket on a bed, do you sleep on it or under it?

Electric MATTRESS PADS go under you.

Electric BLANKETS go on top of you. Get the former, much better. You can leave it on year round, heats better, more comfortable.

The hot summer is bad for me. I keep the A/C at 65 which is a $500 electric bill in August. July was cooler than I can remember. June is always calm..

I sleep best when I'm slightly cold. Could never use an electric blanket or pad.

On it, but it's switched off before I get into bed. Just to slightly warm the bed. I wouldn't keep it on as the house is comfortable enough. Plus two cats sleeping on the bed means warm enough.

This. If you sleep on top of an electric blanket, it will not last as long, or be as comfortable as the heated mattress pad.

As a teenager I was sleeping hard teenager sleep when our English bulldog jumped on my bed and was licking and almost chewing on my face. I woke up from that of course, and I smelled smoke. I did not turn the lights on, but walked through the house and when I got back to my room the smoke smell was strong. I flipped on the lights and saw my bed smoking. Dad was in Korea on a remote TDY so it was just mom at home. I yelled, Mom, my bed is on fire, and she stood straight up in bed and came flying to my room, she grabbed the blankets and sheets and and threw them in the back yard. Just seconds later they burst into large flames. We called the fire department, and the put out the bedding, and set up fans in the house to get rid of the smoke. No doubt our dog saved me from burns and maybe the house catching on fire. Now we have a electric mattress pad, with separate controls. My side is unplugged, and my wife almost never uses her heat. And we have smoke detectors and CO detectors in the house.

We have a Bed Jet and I don’t know how we ever slept without it. It will warm the bed if you want it warm and cool it if you want it cool. Each side is independently adjustable. Her side actually has an Ooler water based system, but they don’t make them anymore and they aren’t as good. I have a Bed Jet air system on my side. Normally I want the bed warm at first, so I turn the heat function on while I brush my teeth and get ready for bed. No more climbing into a cold bed.

We're both warm sleepers, so we only have two sheets on top of us. If the temps get down into the low 60s or maybe less, we have a light throw we pull over us. We have other bedding, but we never use it. The bed warms up quickly after we get in it. During the warmer months, we mostly sleep under one sheet. I only like flannel sheets. Maybe that makes the difference.

Whatever happened to the belief that the electric magnetic field from the blanket was harmful? I think I've had one in my life and not for long. If it's cold I have a comforter. House temp at night is either 67 or 68 depending on the humidity. In the cold night months. 78 in summer so it's just a sheet. |

No electrics for me. In fact, I have no active heat in my bedroom but it's upstairs so there is passive heating. When it is REALLY cold outside I'll heat a fire brick on the wood stove wrap it in a towel and put it under the blanket at the foot of the bed.

I prefer a cold room and a massive comforter and quilt. So much more comfy.
