Sand Job

Anybody have any thoughts? I don't think I laughed once, and if I recall there's supposed to be comedy; it's probably the weakest effort so far, there was absolutely no new ground broken except for the change of location but I watched the whole thing and I don't feel like I wasted my time. So, job done, I guess? Is this the last one? Hard to tell from the closing but I read or heard that they might be pulling the plug...

To me, ever since the Toyotas in the Arctic, none of the Grand Adventures have been Grand, but that particular one was epic. Hard to do better.

And two thumbs down for the commercials. That's a big FU from Amazon, to my way of thinking.

It is indeed a tired format. I watched it and was entertained mostly but I think they're done. If Jezzer's gut gets any bigger he won't be able to get behind a steering wheel.

It’s the same show just repeated in different places.
This one in particular seemed like they were phoning it in.
They need new writers or to just give up.

Scarcity makes it still something to look forward to. If they did this 6 times a year, it will indeed get tiresome quickly.

I still like it.

Flatbutt1 is right. Clarkson is getting too fat.

Clarkson is looking really fat.

I enjoyed the entire thing, but it was not their best work. I can't imagine suffering through all that heat. They pretty much skipped over what they had to eat. I suspect the catering van was along to supply meals.

It's the burgers at his farm, they are fantastic, can't blame him for having several a week.

There's supposed to be one more after this one and then that's it.

For all the years Clarkson made fun of fat Americans he looks terrible. He doesn't look 63 he looks 73. In fact it was Clarkson who stated he's too old and out of shape to keep doing the shows.

I watched a couple of episodes from the Amazon generation. I loved TG back in the day, but as it got more and more popular and the producers tried to make it more and more of the stuff that everyone loved and what had made it so popular, it got, to me worse and worse. I never saw it as bad, but it just ceased to be as good as it had been. I haven't seen or watched it in years. I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but it went from seeming genuine and got to where it felt more like WWE.

I watched it. Didn't hate it. But it's all very predictable. Ended up watching the episode where they are in Norway with the Audi, the STI and the EVO. That crash that James May had was definitely not scripted. That was a very hard hit.

So you all knew the snow mobile was going to blow up the gas truck?
It’s repetitive but still better than most other things on TV. They make it, I’ll watch it.

I liked it. My son is probably their biggest fan and we watched it together. It was better than the last one.

I laughed quite a bit. The snowmobile bit was pretty funny.

It was shocking how crappy the DB9 was and how crapppy the Maserati wasn’t.

I can't even imagine BBCs cleanup bill was for that episode. May did NOT have a good outing in that one.

At this point the crew are old friends. The kind of old friends you meet with on occasion to relive the past, and maybe, just maybe, create some new memories. We all need people like that in our lives. I'd always welcome a beer with such a crew, even if I can predict exactly how the event will go.

I've always admired the excellent production values, and the guys are fun to watch. The short bit of them getting sideways while a Chicago song playing was nice, as was the drone footage of the impossibly long ore train. Best of all was the perfect joy on May's face when he got to operate the locomotive.

While Grand Tour is going away, I'm do hope they will pop-up again one day.

Yeah, there was some episode where they go to the ME in convertibles.
They kinda lost me with narration something akin to not knowing what might blow them up around the corner...with camera work that was pre-placed in front of them....right....
Kinda ruined TG for me as until then they'd done a good job of not looking as fake as much other TV.

I agree that they've gone into the realm of "reality TV". For instance there is no way May could have expected the Crosley to be a good choice for the European trip.

I have enjoyed the series for many years but it is time to gracefully bow out. There just aren't any new ways to tell the same old story.
