Is there a better card mechanic?

My dad's "Uncle Vic" was a former riverboat gambler. As a kid I figured uncle Vic was 100+ years old, but he was just in in mid 80s. He showed my brother and I to never ever play cards for money when a human is dealing. He shuffled the cards a few times, and then handed them to me to shuffle and cut the deck. He shuffled them just once. Then he proceeded to deal out four hands of card. He gave my brother 4 of a kind, I received a straight flush with 10 high. He dealt himself a royal flush. He said a good card sharp can deal you a really great hand and encourage you to bet big, but he will always deal himself a slightly hand.

I never played for real money with buddies, and all were just ordinary players and it was fun.
