Ya unfortunately I'm starting to get discouraged and am thinking I may leave the idea all together, like I said several options are good ones but none have been "Aha! THATS the one I want !" and I would like to have thar immediate decision feeling.......
I'm still open to ideas and suggestions..... Thanks everyone! |

Personally, I think the wheels as-is make a bold statement. They're really nice wheels, they fit the car very well, accentuating the body lines; they're slightly aggressive, suggesting 'look this way, there might be something here', without standing out in a boy-racer manner.
If I just had to change the color, I'd probably be playing with bronze colors, (the second color I did is an example) trying to come up with a tint that complimented the blue-grey of the body. The problem with bronze, though, is it's easy to go too far green, and you need to keep it closer to a more neutral golden brown. You're looking for a hint, nothing bold. But that'll be up to you to decide. Preferences keep the world turning.

The color of your car limits available decent choices. Either stock(ish) or matched-to-body-color will work, not much else IMHO.

I'd leave them alone too, but that's me. Any other choice, it seems to me, would be blingier. Stock is least blingy.

Herr..... I agree and now leaning to leaving them alone.......... for now.
Norm..... I'm right there with you, the color seems to REALLY be limiting me with options I like. Eric..... Hummmmmm would you happen to have an example of that combo? Silver with a black tinted clear? Superman...... I'm agreeing with ya...... I think in the back of my mind, leaving it be was/is the right thing to do and maybe THATS why I've been struggling with "Loving" anything I've researched or any of the suggestions here on this thread. Like always..... you guys are AWESOME.... thanks for the suggestions, insights and opinions........ maybe, sometimes, fixing what is not broken isn't the best approach..... I'm a huge fan of black or dark gunmetal grey wheels. Had my son's wheels powdercoated with a metallic black(ish) and they look phenomenal. I'll see if I have any pics and maybe post later.
(I know you said you want to paint/DIY but I've gone both routes and was very happy with the money spent on powdercoating).

thanks Guy.... I think that a dark gun metal gray is bouncing around in my head but it would need to be in the right shade of gray.....I'd look forward to seeing the pix of your sons car/rims. thanks.
I've had rims powder coated in the past myself, but that takes the point away...... I'm looking to find a project that I will/can enjoy doing myself. Having someone else do it leaves me with idle hands and defeats the purpose of the search. I painted the FUCHS on my bucket 20 years ago and they look as nice today as they did then........ I'd like to do the same with this bucket too...... if..... IF I can find the right color. Not looking to promising at the moment......... I may just look elsewhere for a project....... |

I've tried to buy it in a rattle can but I have not seen anything quite like the wheels at the tire shop. I think it may be a Bimmer color as I see a lot of chatter on their forums. The wheels on my Carrera are a special mix I make with part metallic gold and part metallic silver. It's not quite 50/50 with a touch more silver. ![]() I used the same color on this car. It doesn't show all that well, but you could see gold. Actually the wheel paint on the '88 came from the same 2 cans. I probably still have it.

Wow, i havent seen ragmuffin in years and years....
Anthracite color is my interior color! I did a vin build sheet and that color name is listed as my interior color. That may be too dark for my liking on my wheels. The Carerra color isnt for this car. I ran over to Home Depot this afternoon to see their wide selection of colors and nothing jumped out..... unfortunately. Maybe gonna kill this idea on the rims. |

I like the bronze, remind me of the old Campangolos. I can't spell it, sorry.

I like it a lot.... just not sure if its the right one..... there was another Krylon color that I liked called Arctic Metallic Silver I think... I liked that one too...... but not enough to pull the trigger and have a definitive YES.. that's the one.

Here's an example of what I think would look good on that car.
Two shots of my son's M550 wheels, one in shade and one in sun. I think that color would go well with the silver of the car.
