Even though the race was the typical Monaco procession (and at 7-10 seconds!!! off qualifying times), it was surprisingly interesting. Well at least for me, as a Leclerc fan. The red flag and subsequent tire strategy made the different tire choices a race-long concern. Drive fast enough to keep heat in the tires and Oscar behind. But not so fast that the tires don't last 76 laps, plus don't go so fast as to allow Lando in P4 to open a gap of 20 seconds to Russell in P5.

The red flag was a total gift to Ferrari and Carlos. Super lucky for him. HAAS had a really bad weekend.
|
Thrilled for Charles, his dream weekend now fulfilled.
Magnussen is quite the optimist, going for that gap. |
Haas needs to park K-Mag
Complete dbag on track, and will bankrupt the team if he continues to destroy every car Amazing that Bearman and Lawson sit on the sidelines while idiots like K-Mag are still driving Haas need to give K-Mag a one way flight home |
When Prince Albert shed a tear for Charles I must admit I got a little misty. I think they should have sprayed him with champagne and I think this time he’d be ok with it!

Boring but good win for Charles.
As for Perez Magnison, I watched the video a couple of times and if you watch it Perez does look in his mirror, then turns into Mag…I say it was Perez’s fault. |
So does SAI replace PER at Red Bull?

PER was offered a contract recently but is now trying to negotiate because he didn't like the terms, and SAI is available and on a hot streak - and apparently Merc is not looking his way very seriously; that would probably be one of his best options but I think it's a non-starter. Red Bull is starting to lose their dominant edge and they need a driver who can deliver solid, consistent results and be a trusted wingman for the lead driver. Horner is ruthless. He's invariably feeling pressure with all the chatter surrounding Newey, Jos, lawsuits, etc etc and he knows he needs to get ahold of the controls. It looks inevitable that PER is gone and SAI is (maybe?) (probably?) the best option. But I'm sure he (SAI) wants a multi year deal, so who knows how the money part could work. Audi is offering that, but that's a long term project, and I'm not sure SAI wants to be part of that while he's on his current hot streak. (But his dad is an Audi driver, so maybe pressure to sign with the Germans) Maybe PER to Audi? I realize I'm rambling now and all this is probably wrong, because I'm pretty naîve when it comes to these things. |
I have no doubt Carlos would love to go to RB . But I don't think he wants to be in a situation where he's always the # 2 driver . Audi or Williams gives him a solid chance to be the star # 1 driver .

Let’s not forget Perez brings a lot of sponsorship money to the teams he races for. RB may not need his money anymore considering their winning, but it’s worth a note…

Is Alpine going to pull Ocon for the next race as punishment for the Monaco crash with Gasly ? It sure sounds like they will . They could use their reserve driver or possibly pull Mick Schumacher from the hypercar team . Either way if they pull Ocon I have to think that's the beginning of the end for that relationship. Ocon will be driving somewhere else next year .

So Stewart/Haas Racing announced they are quitting Nascar and selling the charters . I only mention this here because I wonder if maybe Gene Haas might consider selling the F1 team . It may be the right time for the aging owner to cash out and enjoy life . Or on the flip side Gene takes the charter $$$ and brings the F1 team budget up . Interesting to think about .
