I'm no expert, but the ignition switch has a high failure rate on VWs. I recently had the crank sensor go out on my jetta, but far different symptoms. vwvortex site is virtually useless IMHO. I didn't receive any decent responses from my posts.
There is a way to blink out trouble codes on the 94. If you would like to know how I can forward the information.

Sorry, I only use the Golf I (rabbit) forum, they were pretty resourceful to me. Maybe the golf type 3 and 4 are rice boys
