A Neon? Really? Yes, I understand that there was a niche community that built them back in the day of the first couple of F&F movies, but a Neon? Heck, I don't even recall the last time I saw one moving down the road under its own power.
LOL! True, I drove a neon a couple of times back in the day. They were slow, although wasn't there a turbo SRT4 or something for a short while?

I don't think I've seen a neon on the road in years.

Back in the 1990's, my first wife drove a neon, and I had a not well set up 83 944 na

We got to the tollbooths side by side, paid at the same time, the gates went up, and the race was on.
She won, barely. It was a very even race.

Looking up quick stats the 944 had 143 hp and 2601 lbs listed. 18.18 lbs/ per hp The neon had 130 hp and 2343 lbs. 18.02 lbs/ per hp.

I always thought the na 944 had 150, but I surely had lost a couple of horses over the years.

That Neon was so fast the paint started flaking off when the car was only about 3 years old!

That sounds about right. She never let me forget she won!

Irony...often had ricers challenge the 911. But few challenges with my Mustang. The only one I accepted was against a Boxster S driver who tried to outpull me going up the Salem I-5 hill. It was fun watching his expression change from "I got this" to "WTF???"

I think he must have thought the unadorned Bullitt Mustang was a V-6.

You need one of those Bond cars. You know the sort; the ones that fire a machine gun out the back.

If I'm being challenged to a run-off while driving the Prelude...I try to kill some time so that my bottle heater will warm up the nitrous. Much bigger hit when it's extra hot.

tailgaters and those other douchbags are the only time when I think the ability to "roll coal" seems reasonable and justified.

Guy I got my 914 from is a Mopar guy. 1972 and older, and an SRT4 Stage 3 factory upgrades, whatever that means. Dealer sold him the parts, but would not install them. Stupid fast

If its at a traffice light I give them the rev and nod. Then just let them race.
If its on the freeway, try to get them to follow you around a cloverleaf.

You guys don't remember the neon ACR cars ? I bet they were faster around the cones and the track than most 944's .

I had mentioned in an earlier post that I must be oblivious because I rarely had encounters as many of you describe. Some found that hard to believe.

I think a lot has to do with where you're driving. For several years I was commuting my 993 to Scottsdale (AZ) where I worked. The cars I would occasionally see on the way to work (Ferraris, Lambos, etc) make a Porsche look pretty ordinary.

Kurt I think you have a good point about location.

It is exceedingly rare in my (rural northern Vermont) neck of the woods to see a Porsche...and those that do appear tend to be SUV's and most if not all are just passing through. In fact the only other P-car I know of around here is the 85.5 944 that I'd sold to a local mechanic as a father/son project.

The "dark underbelly" here is more political - with the more extreme/insular/"unfriendly" elements ripe with undercurrents of anger and rage, which I can see on full display in the number of smoke-belching pickups with their twin (and occasionally confederate) flags fluttering angrily, and whose owners might view my Porsche as a symbol of that which seeks to oppress them.

But I cannot hold any of these folks in judgement because many are my neighbors who wouldn't think twice about pulling me out of a ditch were I to slide off the road during an ice storm. Plus they all have their own, and sometimes extreme beyond my imagining... stresses and issues with themselves and their families...with an increasing number of these, unfortunately, being drug related.

Wouldn't that be a Beetle?

Back in '96 my wife drove a black Impala SS. Her brother bought one and she thought it was a cool hot rod. After 2 years of being dogged she gave up and bought a 356. Nobody messed with her when she drove that.

For a huge car, the SS handled decent. Just a police car in leather and a fancy grille. I should have painted the doors white then she would have been left alone.

You don't have a well setup 944.

Back in the days of my youth I had a `67 Chevelle Super Sport - a very fast 1/8 or 1/4 mile car. All kinds of mods to motor, rear gear ratio, carbs and intake, headers...
When someone want to race me, I would ignore them. Before and after the Chevelle, I was young and foolish and would race any time anywhere. In the Chevelle I knew what I had and could blow them away. I think that when you are confident in your car and yourself there is no temptation to prove anything.

When someone starts following too close in the Porsche I very gradually start to slow down. Eventually I am barely doing the speed limit and they get tired of going slow and pass. I got great joy one time when one yahoo blew past me and then just a little farther down the highway he was on the side of the road with an unmarked trooper having a chat with him. I so wanted to beep and wave.

No too much around here but I don't pay much attention to others unless they are hauling azz and I stay away from those who go 90 -100 weaving around the crowded fwy. Most of the time, I am the guy driving faster then most on the road. If they tailgate me, I do one of two things, get on the gas or move over. if they blow by me on the left or right, good. One thing i found about tailgaters, they do it for 10 seconds and they are off to get around the grandpa driver. Around here anyway. When I drive my Porsches, I get no tailgaters what I do get sometime is these punk kids try to block me from passing by going the same speed as the car on the right on a two lane blvd. That pisses me off. When I feel like being a hooligan, I shift and go around them like they are standing still in a safe place or get in the gutter lane at the red. Its drag race with no contest. Hey man, I gotz to go.
