Muffler mod question

I have a 02 Boxster S that I would like to increase the muffler sound on. I looked at fister but for the cost, feel like I’m adding sound but going backwards on performance. I thought maybe I could have my son do the fister mod but going to air gas yesterday, the gas alone is over 600. Add in wire and I think argon to pump inside the muffler, I’m suddenly at fister costs.
I also took to muffler shop and they didn’t want to weld off the car due to alignment and didn’t want to do on the car due to space issues.
Now this might sound stupid but figured I would ask. I have a spare stock S muffler. It’s a bit rough but I’ve been polishing and it’s starting to look pretty good. At the two muffler input pipes, can I just drill a hole on each side (facing down). The fister just bypasses the muffler with a pipe from the input to the exhaust tips.
I’ve done cheaper mufflers before and the drone was annoying. I’ve looked at more expensive 2 can and they seem to drone too (less).
Honestly, I don’t want to buy a muffler that is 1/8 the cost of the car if I don’t need to.
Thanks.

Yeah, next time I’m in the great state. OfSC, I’ll swing by and you can whip me up some. Joking. I had that done on my 996. How do I weld those in without it costing as much As sending it off to CA to have done? Unless there is some trick, I will be spending a fortune on gases I’ll likely never use again. As mentioned, Air gas wanted 320 for the argon (not sure spelling) and another 6 something to get the gas I need for stainless. Can I just weld in with flux (no gas). When I bought gas argon gas 20 years ago, it cost me 60. I was expecting more but not that much of a difference.

I wonder if Bisimoto makes one to fit the Boxster S?

I'm trying to figure out what you are trying to do. Is it weld in two elbows like circled in the pic? If you can Tig weld pretty easy job, rent a small bottle filled with argon.

You are in CA, right? There's the issue with smog. I am not sure if the older are that sensitive. I had a Ti header and back and i can get it to pass smog. I am told its about 5 mm too long and the computer knows it. Want to factory Cayman R. Nice and loud, too loud for my taste for a daily driver

Get 2 pieces of SS pipe with the right curve, cut the four holes and have a welding shop weld it for you. I did it once (but I welded it with the shop welder).

You dont need argon or any special gas to weld stainless. The welds will rust but no big deal. Im super cheap so I dont even buy mixed gas for my solid core welding I run straight co2 it welds just as well and way cheaper. I like welding stainless it welds great since its never rusty.

Not to tangent this thread, but off my 996 C4S I have a pair of stock mufflers for sale if anyone wants to try modding them. Now back to the original programming.
