Happy New Year! - Wayne (Pelican founder) needs help with a new YouTube Channel!!!

Hi everyone in the crazy OT world (this is cross-posted from the 911 forum). I finally got around to doing what I've been threatening to do for many years now - staring a YouTube channel. For those who might now know who I am, I am the founder of Pelican Parts and this forums site, and I've also written five books on how to repair Porsches (and BMWs) ("101 Projects for Your Porsche 911" is one of them).

I have teamed up with my buddy Sandy, who used to be the co-pilot on Adam Carolla's CarCast podcast way back in the day. Our channel is designed around being slightly funny with respect to cars, tools, shows, etc. There's no real designated topics, there's no agendas or sponsors, and there's no real point!

Anyways - in the past when I've helped people with questions or topics, etc, a lot of people have said "let me know if there is anything that I can do to help!" Well, now is the time - we need 1,000 subscribers in order to officially launch on the monetization platform and doing that will keep the content rolling.

We've got about 20 episodes in the hopper right now with plans for many more. I'm launching here on Pelican exclusively with nine of those twenty episodes. As always, I'm happy to get people's opinions on it - I may not be able to directly incorporate feedback, but it's great to always have it in the back of your mind when creating stuff like this.

Anyways, I'll embed three different videos here to get started. Please like and Subscribe to help us towards our goal of 10,000 subscribers. Warning: the first video might be slightly controversial with some of you!

Thanks,

Wayne

I like them, BUT, you guys talk over each other, and that makes it had to understand some of the points one or the other is making.

My thoughts exactly after watching the above videos.

I do like the chemistry, the vibe, and the lack of shouting. Good luck.

I'm #60. I'm surprised the number isn't higher, but it won't be long, I'm sure.

It's funny, I've seen plenty of pictures of Wayne, but I never realized that he's tall. At least in these videos, he seems like he's at least 6', but probably a bit taller.

I watched the 959 video. I loved the 959 when it came out and I was a teenager reading about it in all of the magazines, and what I loved was the performance and engineering.

Later, when I finally got a 911 and went back and looked at 959s (videos or photos, never in person) I thought "that styling hasn't aged well." It's still an amazing car, but I don't much care for the styling (although I do love the steering wheel since it's the same wheel that was in the old targa that I had).

I'm watching the 190SL video now, and before Sandy ever said it, I was thinking "the back end looks a little low." LOL! The decal on the hood looks like something that Mercedes might have wanted on a racecar. I think it would look cleaner without it, but it's not that bad. The SL is a beautiful car. I have always loved the aesthetics of the SL series, pretty much all/any of them. It looked and sounded fun to drive.

A couple of thoughts. Each video should have a quick short intro of both of you. But I assume you'll reserve that for when you're closer to 1000 subscribers. And at some point, maybe some sort of quick splash screen/branding for the show, but again, that costs money, so I can see waiting until closer to this making money.

But so far, I'm enjoying the videos.

I have over 1000 subscribers and not a dime of revenue. You need 4000 hours of watch time in any 365 day period as well, Shorts don't count. When you get to 10,000 and lot of hours you might make a few hundred between you.

A huge time suck and effort. I hardly bother to edit anymore because it seems the more messed up your video is along with interminable length, people have to suffer through to find the nuggets. Hence more watch time. And people are focused on other people so the subject is secondary.

AFA youtube university goes, thanks to all that offer instruction, tips and tricks and even entertainment. I'll bet, though, that they make less money than some 14 YO boy putting on mascara.

Tiktok for the win on that one.

I watched a couple. You're on track of interrupting each other more than Jay Leno.

The Perana, very cool! Definitely got a strong Ferrari vibe, but should hopefully be fairly reliable and inexpensive (GM LSx) once it's sorted (compared to a Ferrari or other supercar).

I'm with Wayne on the metric tape measure. I bought a Starrett tape measure that's both metric and English, and I love it. I want to buy another that's only metric, but then I'd also have to replace all of my other tape measures and that just seems like unnecessary expense.

It is much easier to remember "91.3" than 37 5/16".
