Are your local Pot Shops getting rammed with stolen cars?

I'm curious about other States that have legal sales of THC product and the frequency of the shops getting broke into?

In Washington state, the daily news covers "Another Pot Shop rammed overnight with a stolen car" and another stolen car as a get away, Hyundai and Kias are fav's.

Seriously, in the Seattle area several of these happen a DAY.

What is the smash and grab rate for your state?

Aren't most pot shops cash only businesses?

We have had many burglaries of them. We have more pot stores per capita than any other state except Oregon. Even more than Colorado.

Interesting topic but the statistics seem pretty lean.

I did see several links about Ohio robberies but not specifically crash and grab.

Here's a graph that shows an increase in armed robberies across five years but no reference to the number of THC outlets so what good is it? All I'm thinking is that big picture somewhat legit stats may not be available.
Sorry so small. Link below has a better display.

Oklahoma:

The economic analysis shows that from 2024-2028, the state will generate $821 million in medical and recreational excise taxes from an estimated $4.32 billion in combined recreational and medical marijuana sales, allowing for historic investments in education, health care, and public safety.

It’s definitely an occupational hazard for that business. The more professional operations have those possibilities factored into their security plans, it sounds like you have a lot of amateurs running things up there.

Public Safety? Face recognition cameras on public streets?

I'm not saying that is what they will do but I DON'T trust the gov't to spend money wisely or morally.

Only medical sales in Oklahoma. No recreational. Though anybody can get the medical card.

Not that I'm aware of but I recall this happening several times over the years at Harry Beckwith's gun shop in Micanopy (just down the road).

Of course, Harry dealt with it by coming out and doing mag dumps from a submachine gun....

The Beckwith Incident

Five or six years ago, when they first started selling, the parking lots were full all day.
Now...it's rare to see more than or two cars in the lot.

Prices are too high because of the State's special tax on their sales. Regular users go to the black market for big savings.

So...no, haven't heard of any break-ins around here. Nice looking buildings have new names on them often....I'm sure a lot of money lost by the owners.

Yes, the old steal the Kia, ram the pot shop, grab the money play has now become so common in the Seattle area they have essentially quit reporting on it. Several per day. Cash only business.

Funny, though, I don't recall this happening at Washington gun shops. Maybe it has and I've just missed it. Certainly not common, though. But, never fear - our illustrious legislature passed, and our Governor signed, new security requirements for gun shops. Going forward they will have to be, essentially, as secure as bank vaults. Heavy steel industrial grade doors, bars over windows, security cameras on 24/7/365, in the shop enhanced storage requirements, and on and on. Not that any of this is necessarily a bad idea. But, well, they chose to implement this on businesses that essentially do not get broken into nor robbed, while ignoring those that do at a rate of several times per day. Gotta wonder what their true motivations might be.

I don't see a problem with requiring higher security at a gun shop vs a pot shop.

not an issue here.

we really are in a golden years for this too. with federal legalization, the big boys will come in and make the product ****, and charge more for it (only after driving the good, local, folks out).

Regionally gun stores have definitely been targeted a few times in the not-so-distant past.

Oklahoma voters approved the medical. They voted down recreational.

Put into law as it should be. Like the law or not.

it was never about medical. it's about harvesting more tax dollars from the bad habits and poor decision making of the less educated class.

Voted in by the populace. Smart, dumb, rich, or poor. They all get to vote.

Hard to argue against.

Cash handling is dangerous business. It's been some years now because the pot shops were all closed down and then new laws allowed for a lottery to open new ones. Total BS but that's besides the point.

One person or 2, I don't remember, were just plain shot dead in the alley behind their shop in the most lively business street/district in the city. 2 million dollar residential on the other side of the alley.
