No one mows my lawn besides me.:D
They put cupholders on the tractor for a reason.

I mowed my yard for the first time this season a couple of weeks ago. Probably wait another week and it will be time to mow it again. Here is my bad boy, Darth Vadar, 2013 Craftsman LT 2000, 21 HP Briggs and Stratton Gold + engine and a 46 inch deck. I put mulching blades under it so I don't even use the bagger much anymore. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8f691c50de.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f94ce6b020.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f7e68ae5fa.jpg

I enjoyed i mowing but mowing several acres takes a lot of time. After a while my wife took over so I wouldn't have to spend so much time mowing (so I could do other honey-do stuff). I haven't been able to mow since because she does it now and lives it.

Don't buy her a go kart. She will be off to the track soon.

Since you've all been on the edge of your seats wondering about my dead battery- AN UPDATE! :)

Still dead. Yesterday, 10volts and no charge. Today 10 volts, a burning hot battery, and no charge. Disconnected battery. Took THREE hours to cool off. Must have chernobylite inside. Glad it didn't blow up.

Other than being relieved the warp core didn't explode, I always get a little pissy when a battery goes kaput- until I saw the mfr date- 2012.

New battery installed. Started on first turnover.

Please admire my 23hp twin repower with remote oil filter, oil cooler shrouding, rear mounted exhaust, and custom fuel pump setup. :D:D:D

You can almost see the cramped arse engine bay of a 944 turbo as inspiration looking at this.- I find my routing of oil and gas lines quite sexy- Only a p-car owner would overcomplicate it like that!

Onward allergy season BRING IT!!!!! !

That would not work for me. Every single person who has tried to use my Grasshopper has banged it up or worse, driven it into something. I had to replace the bag holders when a neighbor borrowed the my old Grasshopper and ran it into a building. Another neighbor did me a favor when I was out of town and mowed my lawn with my mower, and put a crease in the door of my old Explorer.

It seems to take folks a long time to internalize the concept that the mower pivots on the drive wheels, which are pretty much under your butt, and when you turn the front end right, the back goes left a nearly equal amount. Our trees have a "lawnmower disease" ring on the bark about 3 feet up, victims of Vicki learning to use the ZTR.

I've mowed my whole lawn 3 times already .... and "that area" 8 times. My dad mowed for the first time back in late Feb. ... don't think he needed to actually do that tho' ;).

How come my dawgy pee causes most of the grass to grow three times as much, but causes a couple of small 1' kill areas? I gather up her poop.

Ours been cut twice by our guy. Thinking about buying a 30” powered push behind and cutting it myself. About 1/2 acre lot size less house and garage. Would be good exercise and save money.

Three time so far…hit it again today down the driveway and front yard. I mow about two acres with a Husqvarna 52” zero turn… ear buds under hearing protection and I am in my “zone”. Takes about two hours every week and I enjoy the process.

I can easily afford to have my lawn cut by pros, like many of my neighbors. I spent two hours today cutting and edging. With about 1/4 mile of edging against sidewalks, and even more along the fence lines, it takes a while.

It is my biggest form of exercise. That and working on my two 1980s cars.

Gh85 I got the idea from a friend who tracked his distance cutting his small yard and it was shockingly long.

I walked 2.9 miles doing my mowing and edging today. The mower is self propelled, but the edging is not.

berettafan 04-01-2024 04:53 AM

What is your lot size?

Just under an acre. There is a concrete sidewalk all the way around the house, up against the house. And the sidewalk a few feet from the curb out front, and a sidewalk up to the front door. 1.4 mile of edging. And then there are the 6 flower beds in the front, and the three in the back. No riding equipment, just walk behind mower and a walk behind edger and the string trimmer.

berettafan 04-01-2024 06:17 AM

Man that is just fantastic. I'm doing it. Thanks for sharing!

HobieMarty 04-01-2024 07:28 AM

Good idea, it would be neat to know how many steps I take when cutting and trimming, definitely walk more than one would think.

Bought a Toro Timemaster at Tractor Supply on the way home today and cut the yard. Tracked back yard on the phone and it was about 30 minutes and 3/4 mile. Didn't track front but I'd guess it brings me to about 45 min and 1 mile or so total for cutting. Mower will pay for itself before end of September (assuming I don't say eff it and have my neighbor cut a few times).

Powered mowers are pretty darned easy to walk behind. a bit unpleasant turning in tight spaces but for a 30" wide mower it really is smooth. You just walk. No pushing whatsoever.

You do wrestle with them at the turnaround and the tight spots; the weight of the transmission is pretty noticeable, and power delivery can be pretty abrupt and herky-jerky. I eventually disconnected the whole shootin' match on the Toro for my small yard. For a big yard, I'm sure the drawbacks/benefits ratio is much less of an issue.
