And so it begins

This morning I cut the grass for the first time this season. :( I've got too much to do to be driving a lawnmower. Back and forth, back and forth - it's boring as hell and it seems so unproductive. Vicki says she likes to mow and actually does most of it, but she'll take any excuse not to do it. Today it was too cold out.

Mowed 3 times already this season.

You should hire my youngest sister. She bloody loves mowing her stead! She’d rock that rig!

She’s in East Central Illinois so, you’d have to pay for travel and lodging.

Yeah, the fun goes out of it when it's cold. No way to stay warm by just sitting there.

I'm hoping next week to cut mine...it just started growing.

"and so it DIDN'T begin"

Today I went to go mow the lawn. First of the season.

Battery dead. Evidently the trickle charger didn't trickle! :D

I tried to talk my wife into giving it a try. I gave her a lesson on the zero turn and she was having fun! That is, until she got too close to a lawn chair. Panicking, she pushed forward instead of pulling back. The chair pushed a small table into the fence and then she veered off into the Pluot tree. That was that, she hasn't sat on the mower since.

No mowing for me, but weed whacking season isn't too far off. We've had a productive winter rain wise, and the grass is growing to beat the band. My ornamental pear trees are bloomng and I have one California poppy that has popped up. I'm hoping to have a good crop of those this year.

The granddaughter turns 10 in a couple of weeks. She has expressed interest in taking over my time on the mower. It is 21hp Craftsman with hand control hydrostatic drive, so she should be good. Now we just have to wait for the ground to dry up.

It used to be dark green, but when I was addressing the surface rust, I got urged to do the light blue. At least I didn't have to paint it purple.

Best
Les

red-beard 03-29-2024 05:48 PM

My lawn is mowed year round, once per week.

flatbutt 03-29-2024 05:50 PM

I had to re-light the pellet stove a week ago. :(

I had a thread a few years ago about zero turns. Several of the guys said that I wouldn't have to mow because my wife would do it. I was sure that was not the case. I enjoyed i mowing but mowing several acres takes a lot of time. After a while my wife took over so I wouldn't have to spend so much time mowing (so I could do other honey-do stuff). I haven't been able to mow since because she does it now and lives it.

I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so
I sat down and had a cold beer.
The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking.
My wife walked by and asked me what I was doing,
and I said, "Nothing."
The reason I said "nothing" instead of saying "just thinking" is because she then would have asked, "About what?"
At that point I would have had to explain that men are deep thinkers about various topics, which would lead to other questions.
Finally I pondered an age old question: Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts?
Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts, but how could they know?
Well, after another beer, and some more heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with an answer to that question.
Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby, and even though I obviously couldn't really know, here is the reason for my conclusion:
A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another child."
But you never hear a guy say, "You know, I think I would like another kick in the nuts."
I rest my case.
Time for another beer. Then maybe a nap.

My yardman should be at both houses this weekend.

Although I don't mind mowing, since the mower pretty much does all the work, I've been able to pull a Tom Sawyer a good number of times with my Toro zero-turn. I'll enjoy a cold one while watching my latest victim take their turn.
