WD40 Near Me

I can never find a can of WD40 that works when I need it. The cans are either depressurized, the nozzles are broken, or they are empty.

I’ve had kroil in the past and even tried LPS and the farm supply brand of penetrating oil.

I’ve heard of mixing acetone with atf but have not tried it.

What is your go to penetrating oil?

Kroil comes in pressurized cans too. I use WD but I keep a can of PB Blaster around for penetrating. The PB can lost pressure just like a can of WD. There are ways to recharge on YT.

Heat and paraffin works. Heat works with lots of products. I don't use WD except to clean and displace water as it was designed. I use some kind of oil or other lubricant to oil things. I use automotive grade silicone on vinyl windows and other places that I don't want to get oily or dirty.

I use WD on my metal lathe and then oil it with 3 different types of lube as recommended by South Bend.

I don't use WD40 as a lube, but I bought a gallon can some years ago and keep refilling a spray bottle.

I use WD40 for spraying the inside of my distributor, and on metal tools I have gotten wet after use. And to remove road tar on my cars.

I don't use WD40. Occasionally I use CRC5.56.

But this stuff is wurth it's weight in gold. It works as a penetrating oil, but also works well as a VERY thin lubricating oil and it doesn't evaporate off and disappear.

Drum roll please... It's Wurth HHS200.

I have all kinds of penetrating and lubricating liquids/oils/etc. Those I use most often are WD40 when water is involved or for a very light lubricant, Kroil for a penetratinig oil to help break things loose, and Boeshield T9 for light penetrant/lubricant/lubricating residue. I use the Boeshield most often.

Funny, I met a guy that was traveling and one thing that he had to have was a can of Boeshield to take home. I forget where he was from, but overseas for sure.

I have a can and it sits at the back of the shelf where there are a baker's dozen of this and that aerosol cans. Paints are in a different locker. I need to get them out of the garage. No other pressurized cans are in the garage.

Balistol when you can find it. Better than WD, pb, or Kroil. Gun shops usually carry it, but not in any shops around here.

This ^^^

I use it in the shop and everything else that requires a thicker oil and its sticky unlike oil which will run. We also use 3M 5 way penetrating oil https://www.electricsupplyinc.com/index.jsp?path=product&title=3m-5-way-penetrant&part=70305. or my favorite, 3 in1 with the long drip nozzle to get oil where I really need it. Tryflow is another oil I like for chains and such.

When I worked at Boeing, we used Boeshield, when drilling certain parts.

Tell me lore about Boeshield. I use it on our cast iron or any metal surfaces really when items were not uses daily to prevent rust.

A gallon of PB Blaster and a squirt bottle are $40-60. Lowe's and Advance Auto has it but maybe not with the bottle. I like the small old style oil cans.

And then some loud mouth says: 80% of all stuck stuff comes undone with a blue tipped wrench. Unfortunately it's a few hundred bucks to get geared up.

I like a simple tip like this and stay away from the cut off torches.

An Acetylene/air torch uses one hose. So can a propane/air torch with a pencil tip.

ATF mixed 50/50 with acetone, excellent for stuck nuts and bolts.

I've been hearing that for 20 years. Doesn't do anything for me. Waste of time and acetone. Someone must like it or everyone is just parroting some internet myth.

If one uses heat along with the 50/50 then any scientific evidence is invalid.

Can't remember the last ime I used WD40 as a penetrant. I always thought it sucked.
This stuff is my go to. Along with PB and Kroil. Liquid Wrench ranks up there too.

I don't know what is in that stuff but back in the day, a bottle of rust buster in the service van was a guaranteed nasty headache for me.

If I needed some, I would purchase it from the parts wholesaler and charge it to and leave it on the jobsite.
