Just picked it up from the muffler shop . He was able to get both pipes over the axle and stacked cleanly next to the spare tire . He did good . I am quite surprised how much quieter it is vs the turn downs . I am past noisy exhaust so very happy . Still growls nicely when you punch it . Another item checked off the list .

Looks good. I dont have room for a spare.:(:(

Well right or wrong I told the seller of the G80 I would pass on the purchase . I just don't think it's the right type. Disengages too early and somewhat fragile . All based on S10 forums discussions so I may be totally wrong . I have time for more research and looking . I have the 3.42 R&P coming and will set it aside until I figure out the posi/locker situation .

And in the back of my mind it's possible I already have a locker that may not be functioning properly . As well done as this conversion is there is a chance of that . I need to pull the cover and investigate to be 100 % sure . Yesterday when I picked up my truck from the muffler shop the guy shook my hand and said that was the best conversion he had ever seen . Brought a smile to my face ;)

Nice You probably dont even need the posi. You dont drive in the snow or drag race, you may not even miss it. When I built my truck I was planning on drag racing it occasionally but about that time the local track shut down and has remained that way. I do drive in the snow from time to time so the locker helps with that.

Yeah if I have to drive in snow or ice it will be in my 4x4 dually . Or just stay home . I am hoping to tear down the axle once so I do have to make a decision on posi yes or no .

Anyone know anything about this brand/style of posi unit ? Or have actual experience with one ?

Found a white cap a little over an hour away and picked it up this morning . This cap is newer and in great shape and of course doesn't need to be painted . it has an interior light and a brake light which the other cap does not . And finally this cap has the front pass through window which I wanted .

I had purchased six hold down clamps and the guy threw in 4 so I now have 10 clamps to hold it down . Should do the job :D I have to install new weatherstripping to the bottom where it meets the truck bed and do the wiring . And give it a good interior cleaning . Best part it was $200.00 . I will sell the other one and be good to go .

Thanks guys , yeah I stole this one . Just in the right place at the right time . Facebook Marketplace score and a pleasant drive to NC . This pretty much concludes exterior mods other than possibly a hood protector/wind deflector . I like that they protect the paint on the leading edge of the hood and the smoke color goes with the window vent shades . Just want to maintain the clean simple look . SmileWavy

^Those wheels are perfect for the clean simple look.

Another score 😃 . Found a guy on FM parting out a 99 GMC Jimmy 2wd . The 2wd Jimmy/Blazer have the same width rear axle as the S10 pickup but they have rear disc brakes . And the guy says it has the G80 posi and he thinks 3.42 gear ratio . He's pulling the assembly out tomorrow and I pick it up Wednesday morning . For $250.00 I get the disc brakes I want , the posi and hopefully the gear ratio all in one easy swap . And the axle has less mileage than mine .

Last week I ordered 3 keys from Amazon for the white Leer cap . Took a chance for 8 bucks and they work ! Had to use some PB Blaster to free up the lock cylinders and then some graphite but they be smooth now 👍 . Still having a blast with this little hot rod .

Score on the rear!

Congrats on the keys.

Nice. You have the S10 pretty well dialed. The disc brakes are a nice upgrade. I just did the shoes on my rear drums a month ago. They were down to the rivets.:D:D

Do you need to adjust the brake bias when going to rear disks?

Everything I have read online says the 1998 + the ABS adjusts the bias . No change needed to proportioning valve . I will judge for myself the performance and if I have to will go with more aggressive pads in the front and less aggressive in the rear . But I don't think that will be needed .

rfuerst911sc 07-16-2024 03:49 PM

The seller took a pic of the option code sticker in the glove box . Confirmed GU6 which is 3.42 gear ratio and G80 which is the posi . He also took a pic of the axle pumpkin and I see the casting protrusions at the 5 and 7 o'clock position confirming a 7.625 axle . This should be a direct bolt in . I pick it up tomorrow morning .

Tobra 07-16-2024 05:14 PM

That is a great score on tbe axle assembly. Seems like you would need proportioning valve or something with disc brakes in the back?

rfuerst911sc 07-17-2024 11:57 AM

Picked up the axle assy this morning it seems to be in good shape . I will clean it up and paint before install .
