This could be a game changer:

I will be looking into this topic when I have the chance, in the context of loudspeaker design. I'm interested in if the fabric is in tension, how it is supported/suspended and how the actual shape affects things. I suppose knowing where the electronic contacts are positioned, how many and if there is grounding could be relevant as well.

The sound-suppressing silk builds off the group’s prior work to create fabric microphones.

In that research, they sewed a single strand of piezoelectric fiber into fabric. Piezoelectric materials produce an electrical signal when squeezed or bent. When a nearby noise causes the fabric to vibrate, the piezoelectric fiber converts those vibrations into an electrical signal, which can capture the sound.

In the new work, the researchers flipped that idea to create a fabric loudspeaker that can be used to cancel out soundwaves.

OK, that's really good. You are in second place.

The house we are staying in at Miramar has a theater room that has some sort of upholstered acoustic tiles on the walls and is pretty cool!!!

Very adult of you. Actually the forum where I picked this off from had the same comment. Presumably from an old fart (if you see what I did).

My mom's in assisted living and the man in the next room leaves his TV on all the time turned up loud and it's on the same wall as my mom's bed. The best solution seems to be to have the walls filled with blown in insulation but I have not been able to convince mom that's a good idea.

Here's my second choice: https://www.amazon.com/Acoustic-Dampening-Self-Adhesive-Absorbing-Acoustical/dp/B0BYC4XP6D/ref=sr_1_91?crid=GTY3FM42KXL7&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.4AxzsI8ERhmm5Lduu8dwzrihuqnajeGqx Rnb-ZtT5ERRwRwxahbvm1aAEw9HApEaKPJBTPrfSZgUxAQ_GMl425M 20nwFQ8t4fvK0GcP_huv7qw6oRgOhqE7fdY6mXmCOX0LntNh_0 KVypoQ94DpggUPhdqSGK4YgSmcM1thXtSV3BxfqXwx-a0RZoMyayQX3GxJBuZJhnpdLIzd9jooOtKb7HHz12h2SIjqHU8 k6TqUDu1OfT7hpZ6Le12tYIclT1DQPTNj-MvBD6F-YNdwLNlvSaRhjkky9g6oJ3EetSbw.ELEhjfuY0H1_dWvpF7Ftd-rQ6mrrG5_7jKxu9jcGwHI&dib_tag=se&keywords=wall%2Bsound%2Babsorbing%2Bpanels&qid=1715456242&sprefix=wall%2Bsound%2B%2Caps%2C193&sr=8-91&th=1

I suggested mom use her womanly persuasion to get him to turn it down, maybe give him a handy or something. She didn't like that idea.

When we were kids, back in the stone ages, my dad met a fellow pilot and they became buddies. We were invited over for a cookout and to meet their two teenage boys. We got there and it was a boring adult conversation and no teenagers. Finally the wife of the pilot suggested we go up the stairs and just go in the first door on the left.

We open the door and were almost blown back by the sound of them practicing with their band. Th parents had built them a dedicated sound proof room to play in. Of course they were very popular with the kids in the neighborhood.

Later my mom mentioned that the mom of that family came from a very wealthy family and that is why thy had a really fantastic house with a huge backyard, pool. We back home to our very basic base housing.

I will always remember how well that room was sound proofed.

There’s a thread on Audiogon (audiophile forum) about using this stuff for acoustic room treatments.

The pics of the movie room are filled with very common sound absorption materials: the rug, curtains over the doors, and fabric panels are 1970's technology that work very well provided you don't mind disturbing the esthetic of the room. Anyone who has build a home recording studio has all of the above in place. The next level is what looks like egg crate foam for greater absorption. Seriously not pretty but works well.

The movie room is wide open on one end, but it is kind of neat that once you walk into the room, you notice the difference in the acoustics of the room. It is a nice place to watch movies when it is raining, like it did Thursday night here at the beach.

Cloth suppressors? All the ones I see are steel aluminium or titanium, with maybe a silicon jacket
