It’s a modern performance car. The performance is fantastic, but with all the performance enhancements I think I would just feel like a passenger in it, along for the ride, no matter hard I pushed on the go pedal.

Would need more info on the hybrid system, hopefully it’s not plug in. And how does it work at -30c?

Few vehicles work right at -22 F unless heavily winterized.

I have had my 85 at 0F and it is the only time I had the heaters run at MAX for more than a few minutes. No problems with my anti-freeze!

An air cooled Porsche still works. A 996 still works.
A 15-20 year old battery augmentation system … probably won’t work.

And yes I’m an electric skeptic.

The “there will be something better by then” argument I’ll counter with - but then it won’t be stock…

Electric cars are still far from perfect which is why we still see so many hybrids in development. It bridges the gap between the future and the technology available presently.

So it’s only half a kidney when the batteries wear out?

its not like hybrids are new, there are 15-20 year old hybrids driving around with no issues, no battery replacement needed, 200+k miles etc, etc. hell i did the brakes on a gen2 prius the other day, 190k miles, factory brake pads. amazing. still getting 45+mpg.

and that was on 25ish year old battery tech (few year delay from spec to production). like all these questions have been answered.

i really dont get the skepticism of these things, a 996 has way more reliability issues 20 years on than a prius. hell a battery for one is less than a clutch job. a refurbished/rebuilt prius battery is about 1200 dollars. you can get used ones for under a grand.

EDIT: you can just admit you dont like hybrids, instead of invent more 20+ year old, easily debunked, "technical" reasons for not buying one. you can just be like "yup, dont like em" instead of make up a fictional world. i know, this would force you to admit you have emotions, and that you have emotional preferences, but making up **** to justify your emotional choices is not healthy.

So far out of my price range that it doesn't matter. Might as well be a Lear Jet.

I already said I don’t like electric cars. Any of them. All electric, hybrid, plug-in, the lot. Don’t like, don’t want, won’t buy.

I think they overcomplicate a perfectly good mechanism for translating energy into movement.

You are free to disagree, but I’d still rather have a flawed 996 and pay for a clutch job than own a perfect 20 year old Prius.

thats like, your opinion man. things like cost of batteries/maintenance/longevity arnt. you dont have to make up (ie lie) about them in order to have an opinion. you can just have that opinion and not make up bogus **** to be mad about.

just here to correct the record. hybrids can be and generally are, far more economical, reliable, and cheap to run than a 996. just a fact.

i should know, i have both in my garage. there is no comparison between the two lol.

sorry, pet peeve.

so many men are so concerned about being "rational" all they do is invent "rational" reasons for their feelings. and its like, bro, you can just have feelings. its ok to just have feelings. you dont need to lie to yourself and everyone else, and make up a fictional world and smear and entire technology/car/chassis etc just cause you dont like something. like it doesnt all "have to make sense"

we are emotional creatures, embrace that, dont try and rationalize it. rationalizing your feelings is self destructive, and in this case, smearing a technology by just making **** up.

contrary to presenting this *rational* *logical* *emotionless* persona you all think yourselves, it makes you look like an immature child to make up a whole false reality to make your feelings make "sense." like these are easily googable facts, there is no sense attempting to justify your feelings by making up alternative facts that are just not true, and take 5 seconds to debunk.

its ok to just have feelings. in fact, its better if you do.

you can just not like hybrids. its ok. i dont like turbos ... why? cause i like the feeling of an NA engine ... it doesnt have to make sense. its just what i prefer.

/shades of my conversation with afterburner about his car choices. you can just say you like the supra better, and dont like PDKs. you dont have to invent a world with 5 thousand dollar PDK reprograms to justify the fact that you just dont want a PDK. just dont buy the PDK, no one is forcing you.
