MSR Houston? What’s it like? Ever raced there?
I just signed my son up for the SCCA license school at MSR Houston. Anyone ever race there? What’s it like?

Race? no. Been to a couple track days there. Its a good time and a solid track from my limited view of a half dozen or so tracks.

Never raced down there but familiar with the area. Just a few things to consider when visiting our fair city.
It’s not "in Houston", although not far from mass developed suburbs with the conveniences of hotels and chain restaurants. Obviously pay attention to hotel locations relative to the facility, example, I live in Houston proper and I am an hour away from MSR, Aschen is probably an hour and a half from the track based on his location in his title block that puts him just north of Houston. When are you going to be here? Have you ever visited here when it is hot? From March to mid October it is hot/stupid hot. Bringing car or car provided? If bringing car make sure it is set up to handle operating in our ambient temps. Is a cool suit something you own or will one be provided? Again see above on temps. Don’t underestimate our humidity, in most areas when the humidity gets over 90% it is in the form of rain, not here, that is just summer. In the summer if you are awake and outside your nuts are sweating, pack accordingly. Let us know when you’re going to be here and there is a chance we can meet up, there are several of us that are in the Houston area. |

We will be there Aug 12-14. We are renting a car - I can’t get my Miata there and back for $2100.
I’ve been thinking about the cool shirt… I’m not sure if the rental car will have one (and which type for the connections). I’ve been there in the heat before lots for work (used to have a work visa). It would be fun to meet some of you guys. We are staying in Sugarland.

August is gates of hell hot. I’m not a racer but I would imagine the cool suit is a must.
Sugarland is just south of me by 10 mins or an hour depending on time of day. The same will be true of Sugarland to Angleton, travel time will vary greatly depending on time of day. I’ll PM you my contact info, keep in touch as your trip date approaches. |
