Thanks. I did not see a listing for a Sanden, that’s a brand, right? I’m waiting for my parts guy to get back to me, he has the same car and upgraded everything…says the A/C works great. I might take a big summer trip with this car and it will be essential, both temperature wise and reliability wise.

Yes the Sanden compressors are the 5 or 7 piston style compressors used in most cars since the 90's. The photo shows the OM617A with the new compressor. You need a new mount and some new hoses set up for R134. I have this setup in both of my cars.

Von, that’s a slick setup, where did you get the mount and new hoses? Did you need to have them made?

I’ve had pretty good luck with the OEM style compressor if it’s good or new, it’s also a radial design. The really old cars, (‘70s?), had the huge York piston compressor which was very inefficient. They worked but pulled a lot of power from the engine.

There is a guy on Peachparts who sells a kit with the new mount and hoses. The compressor is off of Ebay. There are Chinese copies of the Sanden compressor. And there is a Utube video that shows that the Chinese ones are the same and all the parts interchange. So it saves a few bucks buying them. I have used two of them with no issues. I now make up my own AC and oil cooler hoses, now that I have the crimper for making them.

Color me impressed! I wish I was closer to you, I’d pay you to make me some.

Why can't Mercedes make cars like this anymore?
