Having climbed several thousand roofs in my career, these 3 items were essential for anything over 6:12. I retired early in large part because of the danger of climbing some of these crazy steep multi-slope roofs that became common 25 years ago.

I can see how the stand-off stabilizer protects the gutters...but getting off the roof would be harder yet with having to step out a foot to reach the ladder.

The Compact Goat looks to be what I built in post #36?

I'm lucky I have a 14 ft. parapet wall around my house. It makes it easy to get up & down with ladders. One up to the top of the wall, I just throw a leg over and step onto the roof.

A few years back, I had to do some work on the steepest pitch of my roof. I needed both hands for the work, so I took two 12ft 2X4' and joined them for a total of almost 24 ft. I nailed stepping cleats to it and a one foot lip at the top. I slid it up the roof on it's smooth side and flipped it over so the lip was over the peak.
I could then easily walk up to the work area and didn't have to hang onto anything.

When I replaced two out of three roof surfaces with steel, I did the same thing. I left the device on the porch roof to give me access to the main roof which gets me to the solar panels ( for snow removal) and the chimney ( for cleaning). Then I constructed a platform with railing to make life easier when I am cleaning the chimney.

I've used my 'Ladder Latch' at least four different times now.
It's incredible how much difference it makes when you know the ladder will not slip on you. Highly recommend it for anyone having to get 'on the roof'

FWIW....the guys doing the work at Mom's house this week - replacing the vinyl siding that blew off during Milton...had these ladder jacks and a plank between the two ladders setup I thought was pretty slick....

That sounds like a great find! Getting back onto the ladder is always the part that makes me nervous too. Good to know it works even with gutter screens—might have to try one myself.
