If you had the answer already then why did you ask the question

This is so true. I always though my father knew nothing but by the time I turned 24-25, I often wonder how he accumulated all that knowledge or wisdom in a short 5-6 years. Oh no, I would never use the job to pressure him. His money, his life. I jsut wish he can channel all the complaining energy toward something positive. He will go a long way.

You have a Tommy on your hands.

My hazing advice is to precipitate a response as to how well he will respond to actual advice.

Those other guys I liked, were hard working and took care of the company's needs in our early days but they lack "money" knowledge. I got the two of them to start with simple investment. Now one of them is doing rather well with the stock market. A lot better then me that's for sure. I will gift my company and my clients to him in a few years and wish him well.

Not sure if its my place to say anything still, but I am different and were taught from a very young ago to respect the elders so I always listen, agree or not. I have always welcome advice coming those who are successful (anyone with a decent job, and family and not some alcoholic, beat up old dude). Again, I am still not sure if I will say anything judging from my friend's relationship and judgement of his father, I am sure the dad would appreciate it if someone beside him say something to introduce a dose of reality to his boy.

My own grandkids thought they knew more than me. They're 20 and 19 now so they're starting to see the light now. I believe the sense of entitlement with youngins is mostly an American thing. It's our societies fault. The American dream of owning your own home is much more difficult to achieve these days no doubt, but with determination it can still happen if you're determined enough. A lot of young people give up and turn to drugs unfortunately. Hopefully this kid will get a clue and not become a statistic

He would also benefit from being pulled aside and taught some empathy for his coworkers who are probably older and see a college degree as something for rich kids. And of course he should understand no employer wants employees who constantly complain regardless of subject. Teach him the rule of 72 and show him some examples on an investment calculator. That's what todays kids are missing.
Don't believe the current freak out over residential RE. "Institutional" investors (entities with 1000+ homes) own less than 1% of the overall US single family home stock (Atlanta is the highest city/region at 4.4%). And no, I'm not a landlord nor do I own RE stocks. The real culprit is lack of supply due to the '08/'09 RE melt down. The 2010's had the lowest number of new housing starts in any decade since the 1960's.

I've done a lot of coaching over the years and, as would be expected, know a lot of other coaches. Almost without exception, it is agreed that coaching your own child is a far greater challenge than coaching other kids. Those who haven't coached - and coached their own kids - might not fully understand the positive influence that non-family mentors can have.

I've found that it's no different in life outside of sports, as I've also managed and mentored many young men (and, yes, some women).

I'd approach it first not picking on any existing habits but perhaps first teaching the meaning of this saying.

"A penny saved is worth ??% more than a penny earned for a penny earned is taxed".(You'll have a better idea of what number to put in for taxes.)

There's a lot that could be said from that, but I'd keep it simple for starters.

Nah, leave him be. He won't learn until it is too late.

This. I think you gently point that out without hurting his feelings.

I have a long term friend. I'm 61 and we've known each other since the 3rd grade. His budget has always been based on "can I afford the payment". He's asked my advice exactly 1 time and did the opposite of what I told him. He's the type of guy who buys an almost brand new Audi all electric SUV and then dumps it 6 months later because he's figured out the repair costs on Audi's are high.

Maybe this kids parents are a financial wreck. I'd pull him aside and bring up the issues you've addressed. Do it once. He can take it in and maybe make some changes or not.
