It’s Deja Vu all over again.
In a few weeks less than a year I’m on my way back to Massachusetts to see my son about a car - yeah, THAT car. Long phone conversations have made it clear the engine is going to have to come out to see what’s going on with the clutch/starter/flywheel. He doesn’t have the tools to do it, and I haven’t seen him in a year so, “Dammnit son, I’m just gonna have to come out there.”
I told him I unloaded that money pit on him so I wouldn’t have to f#$k with it anymore. So now I’m driving 800 miles with a truckload of tools - to go f#$k with it yet again.
I can’t say Im unhappy about it, but don’t tell him that yet.

My plan was to get it back in shape after I retired and take it on some more epic journeys. I’ve driven it all over the US in many trips. When my son was 5 we made a nest for him behind the seats and we traveled from Ohio to a 356 Registry meet in Medford, Oregon, then Colorado before coming home. His mom and I being mostly broke college kids the three of us mostly lived in the car the whole trip. I once drove from Ohio to Calgary and then up through the Canadian Rockies until the pavement ran out somewhere north of Jasper. Lots of memorable trips, coast to coast, seeing things I’d never seen - enjoying the gift of being young.
Well, reality reared its ugly head. Facing one hard truth after another it became obvious that I wasn’t going to have any more epic road trips, not in that car and most likely never in any car. I told my son I was preparing to put it on BaT. We started reminiscing about how much fun we had on the many adventures we’d had, one thing led to another, and, well, I offered to give him the car..
First I was going to have one last adventure and drive it to him in Boston, but I had to face the reality that even that wasn’t going to happen. The car was ready and I was willing, but humans don’t age as well as Porsches.
So here I am in Central PA on the way to Boston with the car on a frikkin’ trailer.
Ok, that makes it ok, keeping in the family and passing the torch. I couldn’t figure you selling, as making money is easy, keeping it is the hard part.. sometimes money can’t replace, but handing something off to a loved one who will appreciate it, is much more palatable.
