My son is apparently getting the 911, so that is one less thing to worry about

My plan was to get it back in shape after I retired and take it on some more epic journeys. I’ve driven it all over the US in many trips. When my son was 5 we made a nest for him behind the seats and we traveled from Ohio to a 356 Registry meet in Medford, Oregon, then Colorado before coming home. His mom and I being mostly broke college kids the three of us mostly lived in the car the whole trip. I once drove from Ohio to Calgary and then up through the Canadian Rockies until the pavement ran out somewhere north of Jasper. Lots of memorable trips, coast to coast, seeing things I’d never seen - enjoying the gift of being young.
Well, reality reared its ugly head. Facing one hard truth after another it became obvious that I wasn’t going to have any more epic road trips, not in that car and most likely never in any car. I told my son I was preparing to put it on BaT. We started reminiscing about how much fun we had on the many adventures we’d had, one thing led to another, and, well, I offered to give him the car..
First I was going to have one last adventure and drive it to him in Boston, but I had to face the reality that even that wasn’t going to happen. The car was ready and I was willing, but humans don’t age as well as Porsches.
So here I am in Central PA on the way to Boston with the car on a frikkin’ trailer.
My plan is to give each of my kids an air cooled 911 when the time comes. We’ll see how it plays out.

Great ending to the story. Maybe he'll keep the car for another half century.

Paul's description of the collector car is exactly what I experienced with my 930. I was afraid one of my kids would drop a bicycle on it and I would turn into a horrible person. So I sold it to a Pelican.

No regret selling the pinnacle of my car desire.

This story is so much better. A gift.

Congratulations. You have transcended mortal desire. Awesome.

Oh keep it in the family and every time he see the car, he will remember the great times in it. That isn't something anyone can do

I often wonder when I will have to sell them. I don't think my kids want them. My oldest learn how to drive a stick for the first time in the 930. He dislike it and the fear of a slight incline makes his heart beats out of his chest. They made it clear that they WILL learn but for now, they like their autos.

That is the best outcome... Should you feel the urge to drive her again I am sure you son will oblige (he better ;-)
I want one so badly again but at today's prices it stopped making sense. Well it stopped making sense 10y ago...

Whew, she is staying in the family.

May your son enjoy and care for her at least as much as you have.

I’m at a rest stop somewhere in PA. The Tundra is doing great - 15mpg keeping it at 65-70mph and it barely knows the trailer is there until use the brakes. The surge brakes on the trailer don’t do much.
Downsizing is good for my mental health. I can’t own a car and just let it sit. Keeping up with everything is stressing me out. Sold the Dodge last fall and it was a hard decision to make, but I don’t miss it.
Steve, the Propella is supposed to be delivered today. After waiting 3 months I wrote to them and told them to cancel the order, the next day I got an email saying it was shipped. Coincidence?
Since ordering it a lot has changed. I don’t really want it now.

Sorry to hear that. Propella has a free 14 day return policy if you decide to return it. If you give it a try, you might decide to keep it...they are great bikes.

Mine is scheduled now for Sat am delivery. This is my second 7S and they are well-built bikes.

Their ordering and building procedure is to take a few months of orders...build them all and ship them at about the same time. Then start over. I have had mine on order for over two months and they said middle of July they would ship...which they did. (within a week)

If you have any Q's about anything, I will gladly tell you about my experience with my last one.

Here's a thread I started when I received my first 7S....https://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/1087090-propella-arrived-today.html

Well. I took the car to my son and he is thrilled.
BUT
I was only have way home when he started having problems. Generator light is on. I'm trying to help diagnose it from 800 miles away.

AND
He took the title to the DMV to get it registered in Massachusetts and they say it comes back as having been stolen in 1970!!

Nevermind. I just got a text. The theft was purged from the records. We are OK. Whew!!!

This makes me very very happy! You are a good man and your son will cherish the 356.

Very cool.
Get where your head is at. I'm a little younger (65) but am getting to the point where I have too much stuff to maintain. Gave away the Ducati b/c it needed a timing belt change and I just wasn't into riding it enough to justify the work. R129 sl600 needs valve cover gaskets and a power steering pump, it may be gone too, we'll see.
I just wish one of my boys wanted the 911. When the time comes, I'll ask.

My one son lives in an apartment in a bad part of the city and the other has a single garage full of kid's stuff and crap his wife collects.
I'm taking mine with me!

Nice, the car deserves to stay in the family

MY 930 was purchased by my dad originally and given to me 30 years ago, he died a few years ago. I think of him fondly and have great memories of him when I am even near the car. It is my prized material possession
