The car lived within a mile or so of the Chesapeake. Exterior and interior looked almost showroom. Frame and such looked like it was parked in saltwater when not driven.
That's it. The number one thing before looking at anything else is to check the frame for rust.

It is important but most trucks have had their frames replaced long ago. My friend's has a new frame and it's still mostly black paint even after many years of New England winters. But everything is rusty underneath. I'm replacing rear springs while doing the wheel bearings just because they are so ugly, and might be unsafe.

What does he do? That level of mileage per year is daunting to me unless all the other services have been followed. Speeder is also on point.

Again, I have gone over 300k on 4 Toyota's without mechanical issues at all.

A friend of mine has a Maverick and loves it.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around 180k miles in 4 years on Oahu. You'd have to drive all day every day. The "Interstates" are not very long: H1 is 26 miles, H2 8.3 miles, H3 15.3 miles.

I'm still there as well.

"He is a newspaper distributor, thus the high mileage..." That means tons of stop and go, idling, etc. with newspaper loads?

Rust in three years? Probably not.

I have put a lot of miles on a lot of Toyota's and never had an engine with a head gasket leak, R22E or any other engine from FJ's, 4Runners, Tundras or LC's

All that said, if you are going to stay in Hawaii and the paper trail on maintenance works out, buy and enjoy.

Yes, I know the mileage is nuts. He goes from one end of the island to the other to pickup the papers, then drops them off at his customers' stores, then goes back for another load. Probably about 130 miles a day, 6 days a week.

I had a think about my mileage comment and realized I was on similar path if I took my alternate route below.

I used to work on Ft Shafter but lived on Schofield Barracks. Only about 15 miles if I took H1 to H2 but that took about 50 minutes to an hour.

My alternate route was over the mountain on Likelike highway and on the Kam on north side. About 50 miles but usually no traffic and again about 50 minutes. Relaxing with ocean to my right and mountains to my left.

He goes from Kaneone>Kapolei (the old Campbell Industrial Park)>downtown>Kapolei to reload>Ala Moana>some errands>back to Kaneohe. That is 6 days a week because there is no Saturday paper.

We settled on a price and I should get it next week. Waiting for rear bumper parts to arrive so I can make it look presentable. I can't believe the corners are chromed plastic!
