Lifted overland Cayennes... Hmmm

Dang internet.... Somehow I have started down the rabbit hole of modified Cayennes.
Apparently the Cayenne when outfitted with bigger tires and a lift makes a great off road platform.

As luck would have it, I have a high mileage '08 daily driver Cayenne that I have been getting bored with. It owes me nothing and it has served my wife and now me well. The tires are about worn out and instead of blowing a $1000 on new rubber, I have considered letting it go and moving onto a newer daily driver.

Instead I am thinking about buying some big tires and doing some suspension lifting and other mods. It would scratch my itch for a new toy and project.

Most folks are buying the parts from Eurowise. I think I can fab most of the parts myself. Would be a fun project. Some of these Cayennes are pretty neat looking once tastefully modded.

Anyone else been looking into these?

I see a lot of these on BaT and they do look great, especially with Martini and Red Bull wraps that tie the whole look together.

955/957s are supposed to be excellent off road machines. No idea what daily driving one would be like especially with all the extra unsprung weight.

I think it would be very hard to get bored with a 957 GTS or Turbo, it is the ultimate "only one car" vehicle. Back in the 50s here, I'm putting my summer wheels back on. Can't wait for that.

The Transberian look is catching on in the pepper wagon community . In my opinion a 2.5 " lift looks just right without looking goofy . Then add slightly taller aggressive tires and you have the look and performance of a true off road machine .

Then move on to body mods . Front grille bar , roof rack , side bars etc etc you can really go nuts . Vinyl graphics are fun to play with . I say go for it . You know these 6 bangers well any concerns about power/gearing moving to taller tires ?

Yep. Ran across one of them in a local parking lot not too long ago. They look very sharp.

The 3.6 6 cylinders have plenty of power... So no worries about larger tire diameter.
All 955/957 Cayennes also have the offroad mode switch which locks the center diff and shifts transfer case to lower gearing for slow off roading climbing/crawling.

We have built 2 of them. Be prepared for tire rub with the larger tires.... but otherwise they are fun. The v6 has enough jam to work fine.

Cheers

Honestly Tim, I don't see how you can not do it. Can you pull it behind the bus?

Just another 958 one dropped off at the shop for some work....

Not sure I will go that route with our 958 Turbo, as we do tow with it as well.

Cheers

Just ordered some new tires for the Cayenne as I finally wore out this set off stock sized 255/55-18's. After a bunch of googling it looks like 265/65/18 on my stock wheels is about as big as I dare go without having to due extensive trimming and extensive suspension mods. Ordered Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtremes. Hopefully they will work for now with minimal rubbing but I eventually plan to make up some 2" lift pucks to go between the strut tops and the strut top brackets.

If that all goes well I plan to cut the lower front and rear bumper skins off, delete the muffler and build some tubular bumpers.
