one month+ straight. 100% Oatmeal for breakfast.

wow.

I think I know what Alton Brown meant when he said, "I pity the fool that doesnt get enough insoluble fiber". hahhaha

I have been buying that small pillowcase sized bag of steel cut oats from Costco. just mowing thru it. I make a huge batch Sunday and portion it off. toss one in my bag with a banana, and that has been all I am eating (for breakfast). friends come over, the wife wants breakfast - I make an omelette or whatever, yet I still nuke some oats for myself. I wanted to see what happens.

people!! I think that is how we were supposed to eat...lots of fiber.

just saying.

Oats are good for you! I usually put some blueberries in mine, and I confess, brown sugar.

What's your secret for nuking steel cuts? I've never had good luck with SC's and the microwave, and I generally just go for quick-cookers.

I buy the Bob's Red Mill quick cook oats. I cook them on then stove top first. then but them in glass containers. when I nuke them, I add a tiny splash of water, cover with a wet paper towel and send it.

a dollop of peanut butter melted in, is ess-ing in tall cotton.

I just throw a big handful of quicks in the bottom of a bowl, cover the oats generously with plant milk - oat, almond, soy, whatever - nuke them at half power for 3 minutes (half power is critical), stir and let set for a minute or two as the brown sugar melts, and then throw on some fruit. 5 minutes tops, and you can be getting your other gear ready while they cook. Cleanup is a bowl and a spoon.

Peanut butter - that sounds good.

Oats are good for fiber, but if you trying to lose weight not so much.

1/4 cup thin cut quick oats

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1 package equal (none for Mrs. Beard)

5 oz water

3 min 30 seconds in the microwave on high

Add 1/3 cup granola cereal for some texture (I like the Quaker with almonds)

I think Mrs. Beard and I have been eating this for about 10 years. It is quick, easy clean up and lots of good fiber.

I ate oatmeal for years, but not the steel cut ones, just the Quaker instant, with milk, raisins and some pecans or almonds or walnuts. I pooped like clockwork.

But lately I got tired of it and just eat Nature's Path granola/flax/pumpkin seed also from Costco with blueberries or strawberries and milk. Skips the prep. I alternate with KIND granola chocolate from Amazon.

Poop almost the same.

Cliff. I don't eat breakfast but when I did, I'd ocassionally make "overnight oats" the night before. I used rolled oats and didn't try them with steel cut oats so don't know how that would work out. There are plenty of recipes online that offer lots of choices. Give that a try.

I never learned to like steel cut oats. Maybe I didn’t cook them right, I had to cook them for half an hour to make them edible.
Rolled oats with maple syrup and cream is a go to winter breakfast for me.

Fiber is key for a few things.

1 fiber - REGULAR!
2 fiber bonds to cholesterol so is supposed to lower your cholesterol.

Several years ago, I got my cholesterol checked out and it was high. I was eating a ton of sugar. Dr told me something like "you need to reduce your inflammation which is caused by eating too much sugar, and you need to get lots of fiber because it helps carry cholesterol out of your system.

I cut my sugar (A TON) intake and increased my fiber intake and my cholesterol dropped by 100. I can't say for sure if any of that was due to the fiber or if it was all the sugar intake reduction, but I like to think that it was a combination of both.

Oh, and instead of rolled oats or steel cut oats (I've had and like both), I eat oat bran (also Bob's Red Mill).

To me Oat Bran has more flavor than the other oats. Obviously the texture is very different. To me it's like malt-o-meal or cream of wheat or cream of rice.

I was curious. Looking at the Bob's Red Mill site, the steel cut oats have a little more fiber than oat bran which has more than rolled oats. So that seems like the way to go.

Most days for the last 30 or so years I've had rolled oats with soy milk. I just like it.

I have a 1/2 cup scoop that I heap as high as I can with rolled oats then two scoops of water. Microwave for 3 minutes. Pour over the soy milk and then round off breakfast with two lattes.

I love oat meal, have all my life. I did it six months every morning to lower my cholesterol. It went up 15 points. Still enjoy it.

Oatmeal is winter breakfast food. On a snowy winter morning I like to put some water on to boil, dice half an apple and some walnuts and maple syrup into the water and then pour in about 50% of good old Quaker rolled oats. Fry a couple slices of bacon and drop a slice of my seed bread in the toaster.
Sitting at the table with the oats, bacon, toast with homemade blackberry jelly and a cup of coffee is the way to start a winter morning.

That sounds like a hell of a breakfast!!!

I tiny sprinkle of cinnamon probably wouldn't hurt either.
