Thoughts on a 2016 Cayenne

Hi all, I was looking at a 2016 Cayenne base 3.6 V6 with 75,000 miles. It's offered by a local high end used car dealer so no history of maintenance but a fairly clean Carfax. One owner, very clean and looks like the maximum available options.

Blue exterior with saddle/black interior. Absolutely a gorgeous vehicle that looks like a single driver and rare passenger maybe never rear seat occupants. Condition wise is a 7/8 out of 10.

The bad:
Seems like a bit of vibration at idle but the tach is solid and no wavering.

Front right daytime running lights are out. This is the headlight unit with the 4 individuals surrounding the bi-xenon lamp. The main beam is fine and when turned on it looks like self leveling motion occurs.

The sunroof is inoperative as well, it is the large glass one. I'm not a fan of sunroofs but if it there it should work.

I don't know much about them but the coolant tube issues and transfer case. I don't know if these have been addressed or not.

The dealer is asking 22k.

Any advise is surely appreciated.

I would get an estimate on that sunroof repair . If by large you mean the panoramic sunroof they can be HUGE $$$ to repair . Next would be a PPI . The 3.6 to my knowledge is very reliable . Transfer case regular fluid changes is a must .

75K is probably a good mileage for things to start going wrong. Bear in mind that having a Cayenne repaired can be a costly affair. Maybe why the “high end” dealer hasn’t fixed the defective items.

I think about late teens cayennes all the time.

pre 19 or 20 update (could be off a year) base is no turbo so I would want the S model. if I found a $30k pre update S with tow package and no sunroof and mileage in the range you're looking I'd have a very hard time not buying it.

Does the Carfax show who sold it or did any service? You could call them. A Porsche dealer might be able to see what dealers worked on it (at least for warranty work). Ask the selling dealer if they’ll work with you if the PPI reveals an expensive laundry list, which it probably will. It sounds like it was driven and serviced gently. What could you buy with $5k more that needs very little?

Have a '16 diesel. I tow so I really like mine plus it is still under the dieselgate warranty until Dec. 2026. A few things have broken on the interior but 99% is still working. Worst thing is the leather on one door panel top came loose . Apparently Porsche switched to a different glue in 2016 and it can let go.

For some reference, my wife's Macan is a 2015 and the build quality is just amazing. Hers was a one owner dealer CPO purchase for us. They are expensive to repair. The Porsche parts tax is big. However, if well taken care of they look like new after many miles. I'd pay a bit more for one with records, etc. I'd want to know it was serviced regularly.

My (wife's daily)newest Cayenne V6 is a 2013 so I don't know whether the 2016 models are the same. I think we are just over 100k on it now and it has been very reliable. I have changed the transfer case oil twice now with Ravenol just out of caution. Other than that, I have only replaced tires and brakes and regular oil changes. Everything works as it should thus far.

My daily driver is an '08 V6 Cayenne with about 240k. When I first bought it with about 130k, I removed and had the transmission valve body rebuilt as it shifted kind of funny when I bought it. Over the 10+ years of ownership and 100k+ miles, I have done the Jimmy fix on the drive shaft bearing, replaced the valve cover due to torn internal air/oil separator, replaced an electric cooling fan, replaced the high pressure fuel pump, changed the transfer case oil a couple times, replaced brakes twice, replaced tires twice, replaced one exhaust flex pipe, and replaced the center display screen.

Interior is still very nice and everything works. Porsche build quality is pretty solid in my opinion compared to other brand SUV's.

This thing owes me nothing and I will drive it until the wheels fall off.

I am currently replacing the original shocks/struts/springs with new and a adding lift kit to go along with my new oversize all terrain tires... Going for the overland look.
