It is not even $20, what else should I get?

I was thinking about it, and why not just use a bucket to catch the oil out of the tank? If it comes out that fast, seems like a bucket would be the way to go, instead of one of those drain pans.

Usually buckets are tall. Oil drain pans are shallow. Not a lot of space underneath a car. But if you've got a lift or tall jackstands, then a bucket could work, too.

It allows me to slow the rush of oil to a level my drain catch basin can keep up. When I close the valve, I add a metal "zip" tie to add belts and suspenders protection, so it can't open up. I just clip it off and open the valve to drain the tank.

Air cooled car? Yes, I use a 5 gallon stand up drain under the sump, and a 5 gallon bucket under the tank . A lof of oil comes out pretty fast . I seem to make the least amount of a mess this way .
If your oil is hot, it can overwhemm a drain pan with a closed top like that shallow black pan shown.

The issue with a 5 gallon bucket isn’t catching the oil but transferring it into the jugs you will use to transport the used oil to Autozone or the recycling place you use. There is also a greater risk of spillage if it’s full and heavy and you’re sliding it out from under the car.

Jerry’s set-up is the gold standard if you have a lift but for doing it on the floor, the best is a really large pan with a spout and curved up sides to prevent splatter when a strong stream of liquid is dumping into it. You can make anything work if you’re careful but I’m not a fan of the closed top pans with the hole in the middle. Those are only good for a small stream. I deal with diesels that have anywhere from 2 to 4 gallons, (not quarts), of hot oil in them and I like to drain it hot and fast.

Which brings me to my last opinion, (I’m obsessed with maintenance). I’m not a fan of Fumoto valves even though they are great for draining a small amount of oil if you accidentally overfill it or you need a sample for lab testing. When I change oil, I want it to drain as fast as possible and really wash any dirt on the bottom of the pan with it. Fumotos drain too slowly and actually protrude into the pan too far to allow all oil to drain. Just look at the photo above. I bought a vehicle with one once and immediately removed it. Not a big deal if you change oil ahead of time and it never gets very dirty but I’m way too OCD for them. YMMV.

I put one on everything I own. I'll use a clear hose when attaching them to Gen-sets. Those are painfully slow but worth it to have control of the flow...

You pour the 5 gallon pail into the oil pan shown in post #4. That pan has a spout for pouring the oil back into the jug.

Denis, I agree that hot oil draining quickly is the way to go, the valve creates a bottle neck and is not magnetic.

I like the car on jack stands for most maintenence. I was looking for a key blank too, but do not want a light or a 917 style key. Thought the group might have suggestions regarding small items. Maybe some of the plastic clips that hold the door cards in place

Here is a picture of the type of pan I use, no reason to add another step wrt pouring a 5 gallon bucket into a pan and then into a jug. I use the 4 or 5 quart jugs the new oil came in to carry the old oil. You obviously want it in a sealed, leak-proof container.

I’ve been using one of those for the past 40 years. Looks the same, except mine doesn’t have the threaded tip at the end. I bought it from the Snap On or Matco guy.

I, like most here, already own a bucket.

No reason to buy stuff I do not need.

So no suggestions on other stuff I should buy from our host? That was the primary reason for starting this thread.
