Dang, sorry to hear that, Dixie.
We are expecting to have some tropical storm stuff around 1am (cst). Right now, it has only been raining.

The tide crested at 12:34. The river was just a just a quarter inch shy from being in my house. My only threat now is some yahoo creating wakes with his truck.

(I'm told my house has never flooded in 100 years. So perhaps this is as close a call as it's ever had.)

Hoping for the best for everyone in the path of this storm...sounds like a bad one. :(

It rained all night here , not sure how much . Wind has really picked up and VERY heavy rain volume at the moment . So far power has stayed on here but many in surrounding areas have lost power .

Local news is saying we will start seeing some relief before noon today . First responders are rescuing flood victims and power crews are out there working in this slop . There are the dip****s that tried to drive through flood waters and failed , cars just abandoned in the middle of the roads.

Fortunately it is now a tropical storm and for my area the storm went more east then originally thought . I will be glad when this ***** is gone .

Where are you located? Currently (5:30 AM) here on Hilton Head Island, SC we are experiencing light rain and wind gusting to 48 mph (according to Windy). We have underground utilities and still have power, however while typing I received a text from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office that said downed trees are causing power outages. It’s still dark out but very windy and I can see a lot of tree debris on the ground. Today will be a yard work clean up day. Our neighborhood landscape debris dump will be busy today.

I am in the NW corner of Alachua co Fl (Gainesville and UF)

Fortunately 10+ miles from the Santa Fe river which is likely 10+ feet deeper and will be rising for next week or so

Whew! Close call

Those are super interesting awnings. Rigid metal, hinge up, function to board up windows? How clever. A regional detail of architecture - completely unseen where I live.

It's not here yet (Greensboro), and it's gonna flood an already flooded area today .... but minor. Mebbe spawn some tornados... and winds will uproot large trees.

Be we are dodging the bullet ....

The mtns are in trouble :(

Be safe!

edited: It's starting here ... winds picking up. Local news reports trees are coming down in 30 mph gusts.... 60 later. Large
old, trees will topple ....

Dixie you really should look into a generator . Yeah they sit idle for periods of time but when needed they bring civility to your life .

KFC911 09-27-2024 02:43 AM

^^^^ Nope! One full tank of gas in that Camaro and GTF outta Dodge next time.

Seriously .... be safe!

The awnings are awesome. They keep the sun out when they're up, and protect the windows when they're down.

I made it through unscathed, I think. I'm just hot, sweaty, bug bit, and tired.

I hate nature. ;)

News Reporter Rule #1:

You MUST stand in ankle deep water when on the air.

I hope I lose power :D

astrochex 09-27-2024 03:11 AM

Hope those effected have minimal impacts.

You’re funny KC!!!

Welp now that dawn is breaking and I can see, we lost a big tree next to the house. Debbie started it leaning but in the "right" direction so no worries about being crused. Saturated ground, weight of water and I guess it slowly fell and ripped up the ground. Right outside my window and I didnt hear it at all.

Shaun @ Tru6 09-27-2024 03:31 AM

Glad you are ok Steve!

sc_rufctr 09-27-2024 03:32 AM

Please take care.

p911dad 09-27-2024 04:17 AM

We heard 3 distinct explosions (likely transformers blowing), power in and out but currently on. Lot of high wind and rain. God bless the crews out there still working to keep us safe.
