My first rifle
One of these was given to me as a 12th birthday present. I've never altered or scoped it. Still groups amazing well, considering it's almost 80. Dad bought it from a local game cop...I suspect it may have been confiscated from a poacher? Anyway, mine not for sale, for obvious reasons. 7 1/2 minutes.

That's soooo cool Paul .... I have three Josey "Somebody" pool cues I'd be willing to trade!
At around 7 I shot my first .22 .... very similar but would have been a mid-60s version. Thanks for posting that ![]() |

Oh, forgot... barrel code on mine ASS71...March 1947. So a few years younger than me. KC, I'd be taking advantage of you. A Keith Josey custom cue in good shape has a higher monetary value than a Remington Targetmaster. But like I said, this one not for sale...I did have it reblued, but left the stock alone...my wear marks & dings.

I wish I still had my first gun at .22. I also was about 12 nd went into a gun shop and said I'll have that one there. The guy gave me a real telling of (nasty chit) so I five minutes later came back with my mom who didn't know about the telling off and she bought it for me with me grinning at the old c*** who gave me grief. |

what a very very cool post..........I still have my Dads Bee-Hive. Need to decode the Date stamp. My firing pin needs work though. When you rack back the bolt, the firing pin at the Bee-Hive doesn't always stay detented back in the extended position, it'll click forward on it's own when you insert the bolt back into the barrel. I'm sure some pin or sheeve is worn. Who could I send the bolt off to for service?

https://www.remingtonsociety.org/manufacture-dates/ Rusty, could be as simple as a gummed up firing pin...but yes, I'd suggest finding a good gunsmith. The bolts are tricky to reassemble...best to find someone who knows the ropes.

I have a few 513's and a 521, same action. The bolt isn't difficult to take apart or put back together. I would highly discourage going the Simple Green route, especially without taking the bolt apart. Chances of getting out all the Simple Green is low thus promoting corrosion inside the bolt. I use synthetic atf, it has both cleansing and lubricating properties, along with some corrosion resistance. The other thing to look for is increased headspace that promotes misfires and hinders accuracy. Look at the two part bolt and see if there is a visible space. If there is a space then you can shim it. There is (or was) a set of hardened SS shims for RC truck suspensions that fit perfectly for the job and come (came) in sets of various thickness. I'll take fogs word for it. Too chicken to try to take one apart, aways used a smith for much beyond cleaning, oiling, scope install, the easy stuff.
My deer rifle also an oldie...made in 1950 722 in .257 Roberts. A very plain Jane rifle, but it shoots well. I know, the .243 Winchester was supposed to make the.257 Roberts obsolete, but nobody told the deer that.
