The hurricane is at my house. I was watching traffic and ring camera feeds, but lost both. Now I'm watching CNN. Anderson is on the Riverwalk about 1/2 mile from my house. No flooding at the Riverwalk, so I'm hopeful.

BTW, as Ian approached in '22, Tampa Bay emptied. It was really freaky to see.

This popped up YouTube... Would this work?

IMO it wont because he's done nothing (that I know of) to secure the roof tiles between the straps.
But I commend him for at least trying something to save his house.

Lol, that idea is plain stupid. Thank you Rufctr, and everyone else, for your concerns. By 2am things should be calm.

Milton hit landfall at Sarasota. May he weaken quickly.

Those tornadoes this afternoon were crazy. At one point, we had 5 different warnings surrounding us. At least 12 on ground as of 3:00 or so. There were 18 active warnings in southern FL at one point. Seeing about 55-60mph gusts from Uncle Milty right nowin Sebring area. We should max out at about 70 tonight which isn't too bad really ...

Watching my cameras. Currently at the same as Helene’s peak. Another 24” and it’s in my house.

My thoughts and prayers are with my fellow Pelicans in the path of this storm.

Picked up some rechargeable LEDs, among other stuff too, including 100 proof rum. Having a elderly parent, with fractured ribs adds to the challenges, and I wanted to make sure, if we loose power that she can see, and not trip over the cat. Also put extra food out for the ferals and have done what i can to prepare the house, shop and cars. Speaking of cars all gassed up (so if I need to charge the lights) and reached out to a few elderly friends who live alone, to let them know to call 📞 me if they need me (and a few single ladies I know as well)
As of right now, it is a waiting game, just talked to a few friends in the Naples area, and so far, all is well.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1728526035.jpg

It can’t hurt and depending on gust magnitude and direction, will probably work. I probably would have put some wooden straps perpendicular to the nylon straps to distribute the tension.

Down to a Cat 2

Why do the TV stations put reporters outside in the storm?

All depends on how they are anchored.

CurtEgerer 10-09-2024 07:48 PM

Current conditions. Power still on  Unlikely to last much longer. 85mph gusts for the next 2-3 hours. No sleep tonight ...

Sensationalism. Keeps viewers glued to the TV wondering if they'll get yanked offscreen by a strong gust or lifted across like the flying cow in "Twister."

Wow ... I'm sure some tragic reports of tornado damage will come with sunrise and it isn't over yet ... but bullet dodged .... whew!

Best to you all....

Always :)

astrochex 10-10-2024 02:09 AM

Milton is at Titusville now.

Wind gusts for us are now below 40mph. We will probably get higher winds shortly.

unclebilly 10-10-2024 02:18 AM

How was the surge? Only 5-6’?

It probably varies greatly depending on which side of the eye... but whew!
