Get off my lawn!

I joined PCA in 1976, and I lived in Alabama at the time. There was no PCA region in Alabama back then. I ended up going to the Atlanta region, Peachstate region to autocross on many occasions. At one event a guy drives up in a 904 and everyone flocked to it. The paint was little dull, and the car looked well used. My 74 914 2.0 looked big next to the 904.
The 904 owner likely saw me drooling a lot at his car. He offered me a ride on the streets. I was 6 foot tall and about 165 pounds at the time, and had to squeeze in. It was a short ride, but I fell in love. Then I found out what they cost even back then, and knew I would never own one. It is a very tiny really cool car, but completely impractical to drive on the road. It was hot and loud, and insane expensive to rebuild the 4 cam engine.

I tried to sit in one decades ago. Got my butt in the seat, but couldn't close the door with my knee poking out. Tiny indeed. Best for a 5'8" or under driver.

That’s just up the road an hour or so from me. I wonder if he gives test rides. 😁

Needles to say, i went down, but didn't take him up on the offer to drive it. I may be Crazy, but I'm not Stupid.

Byron, Considering the value...wise of you. When I sat in one, they were still in the low 5 figure range.

The 904's and 906's that I've seen in person are just tiny and super cool. 917's seem small in person, too.

What's going on in the picture shown at 4 minutes 58 seconds in the video? Two of the cars have flat fans. Would those be type 771, 8 cylinder cars?

I recall reading that there were some 904's fitted with 6 and 8 cylinder engines...but my old memory, so don't consider this as a hard fact. Most of my P-car library left here with my car, so can't dig for documentation.

Yeah, but the two pictured in the video have flat fans like the 771, 8 cylinder.

Perhaps test mules for the coming 908?

Thanks for the video. (Note "For all intensive purposes" being stated. My boss said that for years and I never said a peep)
One passed me in 1976 on I-80, east of Youngstown going back home to the Oil City/ Franklin, PA area. (I was only aware of the 911 and Turbo 911) I was appalled that someone had made a rickety-ass clone of the Opel GT. I mean the rear end and doors were visibly moving on the body given the bumpy highway. Little did I know what I was graced with at that moment. It was also a 1964 and the Opel GT came four years later and it was the other Germans that stole the rear end design. (Im not even sure that's the first car that had that design - but I had it backwaards with these two cars) ![]() ![]() ![]()

Beck's "cover" is arguably much better than the original and way more affordable and available.
