Car diagnostic scanners to reset proprietary stuff - what do you have/recommend

We've had several threads over the years where various things come up for this. There seems to be more and more of these things all of the time at much lower prices. Obviously, some have a lot more functionality than others (often at a higher price).

These are the manufacturers that I've heard the most about.

Autel
Foxwell
iCarsoft
CGSulit
Durametric

I think the Durametric is one of the most expensive and possibly the most feature packed for a modern Porsche. It's not cheap (especially if you want to reprogram things) or simple (need an old computer)

I've got a regular scanner that doesn't see the "other" codes/stuff/computers in the car.

Now that I'm changing my oil, I'd like to be able to reset the oil change reminder. I'd like to be able to check other codes besides the run of the mill OBDII stuff.

What do you guys have, use, and recommend and why? I'd love to be able to see and do what the biggest baddest Durametric does, but I don't need/want to spend that kind of money.

I got the Autel for my wife's Macan. It will work for any car on the planet with OBD2. Even cars we don't have in the USA.

I use iit to reset the oil change nanny after I do an oil change. Also I needed it to change the battery in the Macan. The Macan wants a part number, and I used the same part number as the original battery, it want the serial number, and I just just chenged the last digit from the old battery, it want the AMP hours, and the type of battery, wet cell or AGM.

I called the dealer foor a price on just the battery, and it was over $700. So we went to Interstate and bought a AGM battery for $250. It was the exact same battery my 85 911 has.

Also if I ever need to do a rear brake pad replacement, It will retract the electric parking brake.

My buddy has a Ford SUV of some sort. I don't remember what one, but it was able to clear a cose after he had replaces some part. He brought over his girlfriend's Lexus and it cleared come code on it. No limits on the the use of the Autel as far as VINs

Changing the battery on the 911 is a lot easier, straight swap, and the reset the clock for the few minutes the battery was disconnected. The stereo did not need a reset.

The MaxiCheck MX808.

It is just a small tablet with a tough protective case that runs on top of a UNIX OS. So you get a Unix tablet that you can drop out of the Autel program and use for other things.

It has regular updates for a year subscription. The renewal is $125 per year if you want to stay current. So $10.41 per month if you want to look at it that way.

It automatically reads the VIN, and is fairly easy to use.

It has a built in WiFi to log into your WiFi system for updates.

For us, to do a couple of oil changes, and the battery replacement it has paid for itself in dealership shop fees.

Durametric was great, haven't used it in a while so don't know current status but it was second to PIWIS. I have an iCarsoft that works on our Cayenne, Macan and Cayman so I recommend it.

Do these reset the TPMS?
I bought an Autel TS508 to reprogram them for $300.00.
Paid for itself already.

What sort of reset? My boxster has a way to change the wheel sizes built in. I think it may also have a reset, but haven't looked at it in forever. I know that some of the Foxwell stuff supports working with TPMS and some doesn't.

I bought something cheap from Amazon to do my wife’s Audi oil changes.
Getting sick of going to our independent to get the nanny reset - and catching flack from him about why I’m going the oil.
It was about 100 bucks and works fine for maintenance reset.

By the way-
Using my independent on this vehicle (TDi) resulted in DPF faults shortly thereafter.
I think he was using garbage for oil.
Doing it myself - this is no longer happening.

Avoiding headaches is worth a lot. A good OBD2 scanner, good tires, a good radar detector, good oil, good fuel...pay now or get the eventual and expensive lessons you don't want. Ymmv.

I've got a good OBD scanner (scans/clear OBD codes, but doesn't support proprietary stuff). Good tires, good radar detector, good oil, good fuel - check, check, check, check

You might need a better scanner. I have an Autel MK808. I can't imagine that it's great but it's done what I've asked it to do and shows live data that I would otherwise only wonder about.

I have icorsoft por 3.0. Only used it to reset maintence stuff on my 718 so far. It works fine for that and has pretty deep menus for other stuff.

Do you know if that allows you to see stuff like over-revs?
