Yes you should have your signal on in a left turn lane.

I say "yes" to turn signals. Usually I can tell by the changes in velocity or trajectory of the vehicle ahead if they intend to change lanes or exit the highway, but I also find it happens more frequently that someone looks like they are about to do a change, then they jerk back into their lane. I suspect they are inattentive and suddenly remembered they are supposed to be driving.
Keeps one on their toes!

Yes...without even thinking about it, it's a habit.

I also find myself using my right blinker for an exit on the x-way.
I don't know why, I disappear from traffic not causing any slow down.

If you’re driving by yourself, and there’s no traffic, do you still use a turn signal?

I use my turn signal, but could be better.

Yup, I have made my turn signal usage more of a robotic movement rather than something I put thought into. There just isn’t a downside to using a turn signal, so why have it a mindful process?

Besides even if you think no one is around, maybe someone snuck on the road in your blind spot and seeing your signal could avoid an accident.

Same thing with my seatbelt, just a habit I don’t think about- I’ll buckle up to drive out of the garage- not because of safety, just habit.

I'm a selective signaller ... nope! Seat belts, etc. are automatic .... buy I only signal when needed.

Yeah ... I know I ain't right ... but signalling to change lanes on an empty road.... nope.

I speed every time I drive ... mebbe 10 over.

I try to be safe .... and nice to cops.... because ...

I've never owned a BMW.

However, going back to the op, I have been stopped about ten times in 5 decades with two tickets. If law enforcement had been around on hundreds of other occasions, I would likely have a lifetime driving ban. Don't argue with the person trying to get through their shift.

A cop, who was a friend of mine jokingly told me, he could write a ticket if a car traveled just 50 feet. That is power. I would never talk back to a cop. Ya just going to make him madder.

Years ago, when my oldest was 18, he was pulled over for a traffic violation, he told the cop if he could hurry up because he had places to go. My son could never hold back his mouth. He received 3 more citations. Did my son have a learning moment? No but that is for another OP.

I am always polite to the cops.
It just irritated me that he actually wrote me a ticket instead of a warning
For a turn signal when no one was around and it was a side road behind a gas station and I new why he was doing it.

I don't think I would'a been giving any lip to the cop as he walked off. I wouldn't have said thank you, but I also wouldn't make him regret his decision to cut me a break.
I pulled out onto hwy and kicked it sideways a few years ago and a cop was way behind me. He caught up flashed his lights then kept going.
As said. Got stopped doing 100 in a 30 and even passed a car with solid yellow and he let me go.
Most cops are good guys. Then you have ones with small d****

It was the being threatened to write more for the same offense that iquestion.

Depends on the mood of the cop. Regarding your issue, my guess is yes. Your word against his personally I would just take whatever and say thanks officer, have a nice day.
