Exciting morning here.

Thiis moorning we were sound asleep at 6:20 and I heard my cell phone squawking and it only does that with a tornado warning, or severe weather. So I went to fetch my phone in my office and check it out. We turned on the TVs to see what was going on. In any severe weather the local TV stations all go to "wall too wall" coverage, No commercials, no breaks, just the weather radar and reports from their storm trackers chasing the the storms.

They said we had 14 minutes before it got to our area.

They were showing a possible rotation coming our way. So I grabbed my bug out bag, as did my wife. We gathered up the two dogs and headed to the shelter. I have a battery operated light that will last for 24 hours, and 110 on an extension cord plugged into the wall for more light. That lights up the shelter, and the little fan comes on. It is small down there, but enough room for us and the two dachshunds both wanted into mamas lap.

We watched the live TV broadcast on my cell phone using the TV app they give away for free. The cell signal is weak in the cellar, so iit is not full HD, but still clear. And the voice is clear. They showed it going over a university one mile from us, but no tornado at all. We heard the HEAVY rain that dumped an inch of rain in 15 minutes.

The front passed over us but no spinning winds, or destructive winds. Just the rain.

Once it had passed, we got out of the shelter, that is in the garage, behind my 911 and fed the dogs breakfast and took showers and back to normal.

It is unusual for storms like that for this area. We usually get tornadoes in the afternoon or evening. Wee kept the shelter open and ready as the afternoon storms will get here this afternoon.

I had tornado sirens yesterday afternoon. Went north of me. Only minor damage.

Severe storm warning this morning. It also went north.

Probably going to end up with 6 or 7 inches of rain over the last 2 days.

Mesonet rainfall totals that don't include the torrential rain happening now.

We have had 1.22 inches of rain so far this morning. 5.17 over that last coupe of days. We never worry about flooding as we are on a hill. We had 12 inches once in 48 hours and no flooding in the least here. More rain is coming. And no one iis complaining. We had not seen rain for over 40 days. The lake levels were getting low. That will not be an issue now.

Glen - I'm glad you pulled through unscathed and I'm only slightly surprised you are prepared with a shelter, etc.

1.22" of rain in a morning is a lot. wow! 5.17" is nearly half our yearly rainfall here.

I'm happy you are OK.

We had the shelter installed 10 or so years ago. This is just the second time we have been down there due too a storm. We clean it out from insects, and debris every spring.

I have a 5 gallon bucket full of water bottles, and bags designed to urinate into if necessary for relief.

When I got the building permit from the city, they registered it's location with the fire department. If the house is destroyed or a car is dropped on top of the shelter, the steel sliding roof will keep us safe, but trapped. The fire department knows were to find us.

We have a first aide kit, some food for the dogs, and granola bars for us. I need to replace the water bottles with new water as they are several years old.

I also want to build and slightly wider seat to be more comfortable. We could maybe cram 6 people down there if we had to, but it would be tight.

Glad it worked out for you. We're at the opposite end. Right now we're rotating crews for a brush fire on one of the ridges up here. We are desperate for rain.

That was plenty of notice. The storm intensified all of a sudden. There are some that we get a 7 day notice to be on alert as the conditions will be ripe for tornadoes.

We knew a round of thunderstorms was due here from the forecast last night.

We have had 1.54 of rain now. More to come today.

Yea, the doggers are part of the evacuation plan. A top priority after we are ready to go down to the scaredy hole.

Secure the roof to being lifted.

Protect any downhill liability. Build a wall if applicable.

You’re still in bed at 6:20? I’m retired and don’t sleep that late.

Yep, I normally get up at 7:15 and make the long commute of 14 steeps down the hall to my office. Heavy traffic are the dog in the way ready for their breakfast.

I get company books updated and my personal finances up to date, and knock off at 9:00 AM most days. If we have a big project my computer might have to churn on ii for a while. Then I get it uploaded too our One Drive for the customer to download.

It is a tough work day. If I need a week off, I take off my boss hat, and ask the boss for the time off. Maybe a week, or just a few days. The mean boss will make me wash his 911 when I get done driving it on a trip.

The worst is when the mean boss's wife comes in and makes me go work in the gardens or help her wash her car.. I don't get paid at all for that. I get even with the jerk boss by sleeping with his wife, and drinking his beer that I buy with his credit card!
