My boys had brushless Traxxas cars that would go 65 with Lipo batteries, that was pretty awesome. Then they’d crash and we would have to fix them. 200 is just crazy!

Impressive. We used to go and watch an R/C airplane speed competition at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station every year. The Navy actually sponsored the event, and provided RADAR to verify speed. This was long before today's miniature jet engines, so all of the "jets" were powered by two cycle reciprocating engines driving ducted fans. The best we ever saw was in this range, 230-240 mph, and they were in the air, not on the ground. Just maintaining visual on one of them, even not being the guy trying to fly it, was difficult. Driving this car must be very difficult.

My younger son and I raced R/C cars when he was about ten until he turned about 15. "Gas" (glow fuel) power outdoors in the summer, electric in the winter indoors. Here are our two gas cars, 1/10 scale "touring cars". Class rules allowed .12 ci two strokes with some internal limitations. I converted a .26 ci four cycle for my car, which everyone was fine with, although not technically "legal". We had a ball. I really miss doing that with him. Gas cars are, unfortunately, dead. Modern lipo batteries and brushless motors killed them. Really too bad, something about the noise, smoke, smell, goo, and all of that really made the gas cars fun.





These things might have hit 40 mph on a good day. That was plenty fast, believe me, with a dozen or more racing in a pack.

The guy, Steve Eng, who built that car in the video, has another video where he details how he went about designing it.
Pretty interesting stuff as he came up with the whole chassis idea on his own.
His car has four motors in it, one for each wheel plus four controllers for them.

My trucks are brushless and run on Lipo's. Two are advertised as being able to go 50+mph out of the box, and guys have shown that to be no brag but fact. Pretty cool for a ready to run out of the box stock truck if you ask me.
I hope to run mine this weekend with my twin grandson's.

Glow (.21 CI) 1/8th buggy and truggy are still pretty well participated

Back in the late 80s they were running oval cars an average over 50mph on track. Back then the sprint cars could pull the front wheels up where all the stuff now days can do it.

The Drag "Top Fuel" cars were pushing 80-90mph with motors turning 110k rpm with NiCads.

During filming of Deadpool (Dirty Harry, not the Marvel one) Jay Halsey had to be told to slow down and not pass the full size car when they were filming the 1/10 Corvette chase scene.

Also, Gloria Estefan from Miami Sound Machine was big into racing R/C at that time. She was featured in the same article of R/C Car Action as the interview with Jumpin' Jay Halsey.
