hose fittings in dual head chuck inflator 1/4" NPT?

This is my inflator head. It sounded like a quiet 22 going off in my hand today which turned out to be the hose blowing a pinhole in the middle. The hose says "300 psi".



It has lived 99.9% of its life in a cardboard box with the compressor in a closet inside the house. It's lived a pampered life compared to other inflators.

I'd like to order a replacement, but I don't think it's going to be that straightforward.

The two ends of the hose are different sizes and there are o-rings at both ends.

At the big end which screws into the chuck, the minor thread diameter is .46" and the major thread diameter is .5" (id is .32") which is a little smaller than a regular quick connect fitting.

The small end that screws into the valve is .36" - .38" (id is .23"). (seems this could be 3/8 UNF-24)

Amazon has a couple of hoses for sale, but I think they are different ends.

They both say

End 1: 3/8 inch 24 UNF Brass fitting (FMS64T) for inflators
End 2: 1/4 inch NPT male fitting

It looks like the small end of those may be the same as the small end of my hose. If that's the case, then maybe I could buy one of those hoses, and a new chuck (like below) that would screw into the other end of the hose which is 1/4" NPT, and most stand alone chucks are 1/4" NPT threads.




So, keep my valve/gauge portion, buy a new hose and chuck? (would probably be $20 for the 2 parts from Amazon).

Or just trash the whole thing and buy a new one? I probably only paid ~$20 for this thing.

When I bought this, I wanted to buy something "good" that would last. I was not happy that the best at the store where I made the purchase didn't instill me with confidence that it was going to last 20-30 years, but I bought it anyway.

I don't really use the built in "gauge" other than as a very rough "that's probably more than enough" that I then verify with my dial gauges.

I also hate to sheiße-can this thing just because the hose popped when I could either cut the hose and then stick one of these in it


Or just replace the hose with something that I hope is a better quality.

Other than the fact it doesn't go, it's a cool inflator. Nice and small and compact.

I think I see what's going on.

I bought the ~$20 version that they had at whichever big box store I bought the compressor from (good makita, super quiet small compressor).

But Milton makes a higher quality version which is what I wanted, but didn't realize the difference.

I'll see what PP has before I order anything. Maybe they'll have something awesome.

I'm leaning towards one of these for $46 from Amazon since I suspect it's a quality item.

After a weekend of messing with the 1/4- 3/8 condundrum with my own air equipment-trips to lowes and fiddling- I concur, that hose would work. Final answer!

The dual head is better for bike tires.
Some road bikes have Presta valves but adapters are $3 at wally. Probably only need to carry one.

I like the long rigid application more than the little short round chucks. I don't really need the second connection. I don't have a bike any more.

^this^ is a much more substantial better made part than the cheap thing that I previously purchased.

Those are probably straight thread o-ring boss fittings. 50/50 whether they're metric or SAE.

If you came back to civilization, there are a hundred pneumatic/hydraulic hose shops here that could make you a replacement in 10 minutes.

Yep, no doubt that I could probably get something made easily in town.
