It’s really not even a car at this point, it’s a block of gold. It’s bragging rights between ultra rich where they can be the “person” for a while and then sell for a profit. There’s no love, it’s all about return. The play ground bully cars as Chris Jacobson called them are just plain boring IMO. 99.9999% of us will never be within ten feet of these so it’s all really irrelevant in my opinion. Give me an auction of 5k to 200k cars and now I’m really interested. I watched but found it sort of blah. This car should be in Germany for the world to enjoy. Surprised the guy from Syria didn’t own.

I said that a while when the word 1st got out. Absolutely would understand using it as a “Bait” car with a reserve so high that it would never make reserve.
Funny, this sold for less than I would have expected, final price was $27K, crazy since it started out at $60K

it looks like the high bid on this ratty
ford pinto is $2 million,
oh, but that's not going to be enough for the fool consigning the
POS who thinks his car is a lottery ticket.
Bid goes on, again.

When mecum first starting getting big, they had somewhat
of a credibility problem compared to others like Barrett Jackson.
Too much used car dealer stigma.
Over the years they overcame most of that although
I still wouldn't trust them in my house unsupervised.

This past weekend was a step backward for them.
Too many cars where huge bids did not
meet the crazy-stupid reserves.
That's on them for accepting those reserve numbers
in the first place.

I enjoy watching the first day of these auctions
a greet deal more than the Saturday spectacle.
Seeing cars at real prices being bought and sold
by real people resonates.

As mentioned above, all part of the plan...

https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a64069989/jerry-seinfeld-sold-porsche-917k-after-turning-down-25-million-dollars-at-auction/

In the world of unseemly car trading, this fits right in.

I would give them $25,000 for a Daytona Charger race car in a second.

Tell me about it, I would love to take it to a PCA DE.

Sorry, but this pair of 917 front wheels are NOT for sale.

You were right...

From Spike's podcast: "He (Seinfeld) also said he didn’t really expect to sell the car at the auction anyway; to him, it was more of a global advertisement for the car and for Mecum than anything else. It would be great exposure for the car, and great exposure for the auction house."

Yeah, the whole "auction" was basically theatrics. At Amelia now and have heard more of the speculation my buddy had shared with me and that I posted earlier. That being Mecum (or somebody very close to Dana) owns the car. Not a fan of this approach. It all seems a little grimy and huckster-ish to me.
